Silymarin is known as a 'natural hepatoprotective medicine'
Silymarin is a plant extract extracted from the seed coat of the medicinal plant Silymarin in the Asteraceae family. It is a yellow powder or crystalline powder with a bitter taste. Easily soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and methanol, insoluble in chloroform, and insoluble in water. The main ingredients include flavonoids such as silibinin, isosilibinin, silibinin, and silibinin. This substance has the following effects: it protects liver cells from toxic substances, especially alcohol and environmental pollutants (pesticides, heavy metals, etc.) that invade and damage the liver; Has strong antioxidant function, can protect liver cells from free radical damage, far more effective than vitamin E; promotes protein synthesis, accelerates the production of new liver cells, or allows damaged liver cells to repair on their own. Therefore, it is called a 'natural liver protective medicine'. In addition, silymarin has the effects of anti radiation, anti-aging, prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis, and delaying skin aging. This product is widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals, health products, cosmetics, food and other products. The current dosage forms of Silymarin include oral preparations: Silymarin tablets, Yiganling tablets, and Silymarin lecithin complex hard capsules. The product names include: Liganlong, Ligalong, Yiganling, etc. The injection is mainly made into Silymarin derivatives, such as Glucose-N · Methylamine salt.
Silymarin refers to a class of flavonols extracted from the fruits and seeds of the herbaceous plant Silybum marinanum (L) Gaenrt in the Asteraceae family, which are condensed with derivatives of phenylpropanoid to form flavonols. Currently, the total flavonols in Silymarin used in formulations (commercially known as Ligalon, Yiganling, Milk Thistle, etc.) account for about 80%, mainly containing silybin, isosilybin, siliexin, silizinin, and silizinin. Among the four isomers, silibinin has the highest content and the highest hepatoprotective activity.
Detection methods: UV spectrophotometry (UVa280nm) and liquid chromatography in DAB10.
