As the core measuring equipment in the laboratory, the accuracy of precision balance directly affects the reliability of experimental data. The debugging process requires systematic operation, covering four major links: environmental adaptation, mechanical calibration, electrical calibration, and performance verification. The following is the standardized debugging process:
1、 Environmental preparation and preliminary inspection
1. Site selection and stability
Place the balance on a stable tabletop (preferably marble or shock resistant), away from doors, windows, air conditioning vents, and vibration sources (such as centrifuges). Ensure a constant ambient temperature and avoid direct sunlight or airflow disturbances. Preheat the sensor for at least 30 minutes to achieve thermal equilibrium.
2. Appearance and component inspection
Confirm that the scale pan is clean and free of residue, and that the windproof cover is properly closed; Check that the power and data cables are securely connected without any damage or looseness. If it is an electronic balance, observe whether the display screen lights up normally and there are no error prompts.
2、 Horizontal calibration and mechanical leveling
1. Bubble level adjustment
By observing the offset direction of the built-in bubble level on the base, rotate the horizontal adjustment foot screw at the bottom of the balance until the bubble is centered on the scale circle. This step ensures that the vertical force of the weighing system is uniform and avoids measurement deviation caused by tilting.
2. Dynamic response testing
Gently push the scale pan and release it, observe the return speed and stability. In an ideal state, the scale should quickly return to zero after a slight swing, and the fluctuation range of the displayed value should not exceed the allowable error (usually ≤± 0.1mg). If the damping is too large or too small, check the shock absorber device or adjust the internal counterweight.
3、 Electrical calibration and range verification
1. Zeroing and skinning function test
Press the "zero" button and wait for the display screen to steadily show "0.0000g". Place a standard weight of known mass (such as 10g) and record the reading; After removing the weight, reset it to zero again and repeat 3 times to confirm the repeatability error is less than 0.05%. Subsequently, test the "peeling" function, stack small weights (such as 1g) and reset the zero point to verify whether the total mass displayed after stacking is correct.
2. Full range linear calibration
Select standard weight combinations that cover commonly used ranges according to national standards (such as 1mg, 10mg, 100mg, 1g, 10g, 100g), load them in sequence, and record the displayed values. Calculate the deviation between the actual and theoretical values of each point, and the maximum allowable error should comply with the accuracy level of the balance (such as first level balance ≤± 0.05mg). If a certain point exceeds the tolerance, you need to enter the menu for linear correction or contact an engineer to repair the sensor.
4、 Performance verification and special function testing
1. Repeatability and stability testing
Select a medium range weight (such as 50g), weigh continuously for 10 times, and calculate the standard deviation (SD). The SD of a high-quality balance should be<0.03mg. Extend the testing time to 1 hour, monitor the long-term drift, and ensure that the drift of qualified products is ≤ 0.1mg per hour.
2. Integral weighing and animal weighing modes (optional)
If used for live weighing, enable the "animal weighing" mode to simulate the instantaneous weight changes during mouse activity and verify the dynamic capture ability. For powder or liquid samples, test the "integral weighing" function to ensure that the cumulative amount is consistent with the single weighing.
5、 Closing and Recording
1. Final verification
Use standard weights that have been verified and approved by the metrology institute for final inspection to confirm that all ranges meet the standards. Save the calibration report, indicating the calibration date, operator, and environmental conditions (temperature and humidity).
2. Daily maintenance suggestions
Regularly clean the scale pan and windproof cover to avoid dust accumulation; Perform a simple calibration once a month (using only 100g weights); Send to professional institutions for comprehensive inspection every year.
