The difference between visible spectrophotometer and UV visible spectrophotometer
Date: 2025-11-09Read: 2

definition:

A visible spectrophotometer is used to measure the absorbance of a substance under visible light and perform quantitative analysis;

A UV visible spectrophotometer is used to measure the absorbance of a substance under test for visible or ultraviolet light, and to perform quantitative analysis.

The difference between visible spectrophotometer and UV visible spectrophotometer includes the following aspects:

1. Optical components:

Due to its ability to absorb ultraviolet waves and good transparency towards visible near-infrared wavelengths, some optical components of visible spectrophotometers can use glass, while UV visible spectrophotometers cannot use glass components and generally use adaptive optical components.

2. Receiver:

Due to the addition of ultraviolet waves in UV visible spectrophotometers, sensitive response to ultraviolet waves is added to the receiver, which is more expensive than the receiver of visible spectrophotometers.

3. Light source:

The light source of visible spectrophotometers generally only uses tungsten lamps, while ultraviolet visible spectrophotometers use two power sources: tungsten lamps and deuterium lamps. This is because the spectral range of tungsten lamps is mainly in the visible near-infrared range, while deuterium lamps are mainly in the ultraviolet range.
