The following are solutions and operating points for common faults of industrial calcium ion composite electrodes, combined with practical application scenarios and equipment characteristics to explain:
1、 Slow response or no signal
1. Cause analysis
Passivation/aging of sensitive film: Long term exposure to high ionic strength media leads to membrane deactivation;
Exhaustion of internal filling fluid: The reference electrode lacks liquid and cannot form a stable potential difference;
Loose wiring terminals: Poor cable contact leads to signal interruption.
2. Solution steps
Activation treatment: Soak the electrode in 3M KCl solution for 2 hours to restore the membrane activity;
Supplement internal filling fluid: Open the filling hole to inject specialized electrolyte (cannot be replaced by tap water), and discharge bubbles;
Check the circuit: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the electrode plug (normally around ± 200mV). If there is any abnormality, replace the cable or connector.
2、 The reading fluctuates violently
1. Typical triggers
Mechanical disturbance: installation position close to pump/valve causing fluid impact;
Sample interference: oil stains, suspended solids covering the surface of sensitive film;
Poor grounding: Electromagnetic interference introduces noise signals.
2. Targeted processing
Optimized installation: Install an anti eddy current sheath to ensure that the electrode is vertically inserted into the center of the pipeline and the upstream side faces forward;
Deep cleaning: Soak and clean the membrane surface with 5% dilute hydrochloric acid (hard brushes are prohibited), and then rinse with deionized water;
Strengthen grounding: Lay a separate grounding wire to the instrument terminal, away from the power cable wiring.
3、 Baseline drift exceeds the standard
1. Fundamental causes
Reference electrode leakage: blockage of the liquid network leading to an imbalance of internal and external pressures;
Temperature compensation failure: The temperature compensation component is detached or short circuited;
Osmotic pressure difference: The concentration gradient between the tested solution and the filling solution is too large.
2. Calibration method
Pressure test: Gently squeeze the reference electrode chamber and observe whether there are continuous bubbles overflowing (no bubbles indicate blockage);
Clearing the liquid interface: Use a syringe needle to carefully clear the ceramic core hole and replace the severely blocked liquid interface;
Adjust ion strength: Add NaCl to the tested solution to adjust it to an ion strength similar to that of the filling solution.
4、 No output
1. Emergency investigation path
Power detection: Confirm that the transmitter is powered normally (DC 24V) and whether there are any alarm codes on the display screen;
Caustic soda crystallization: Under high pH conditions, NaOH crystallization seals the liquid interface and requires alternating flushing with warm water and dilute acid;
Damaged membrane: When visible cracks appear, a new electrode tip must be replaced and on-site repair is prohibited.
5、 Response to special working conditions
High temperature and high pressure environment: Select special material electrodes with heat dissipation fins and install pressure reducing buffer valves;
Corrosive medium: using Hastelloy C-276 electrode body+perfluorosulfonic acid membrane structure;
Viscous fluid: Install a heat tracing pipeline to maintain a flow rate of>0.3m/s to prevent local sedimentation.
Through the above systematic troubleshooting and standardized maintenance, more than 90% of industrial calcium ion electrode failures can be effectively solved. For persistent abnormal problems, it is recommended to contact the original factory for electrolyte composition analysis and membrane potential testing. If necessary, replace with new electrodes of the same model to ensure the reliability of the online monitoring system.
