Daily use and preventive maintenance of MTS displacement sensor
Date: 2025-10-21Read: 32
MTS displacement sensorIt is a high-precision sensor used to measure linear or rotational displacement in mechanical systems, widely used in various fields such as industrial automation, aerospace, and automotive manufacturing. Based on the principle of magnetostriction, its core components include a ferromagnetic waveguide and a movable permanent magnet. When a current pulse passes through a waveguide, a longitudinal magnetic field is generated in the waveguide. When it intersects with the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, the waveguide will exhibit magnetostriction, generating a strain pulse signal. This return signal travels back to the sensor electronic head at ultrasonic speed. By measuring the round-trip time of the signal, the sensor circuit can accurately calculate the position of the permanent magnet and provide an absolute position reading. This non-contact measurement method eliminates mechanical wear and ensures the repeatability and durability of the measurement.
MTS displacement sensorDaily use and preventive maintenance:
1. Keep the installation environment clean
Dust and dirt prevention: Avoid installing sensors in environments with high levels of dust, oil, water vapor, or corrosive gases. Dust and impurities may enter the electronic compartment or contaminate the waveguide seal.
Protective measures: In harsh environments, dust covers, protective sleeves, or accordion covers should be used to physically protect the sensor rod (waveguide).
2. Avoid mechanical damage
Do not touch the sensing rod: The sensing rod (waveguide) of the magnetostrictive sensor is very precise, and it is absolutely forbidden to touch, bend, scratch or apply external force with hands, tools or other objects. Any physical damage can lead to permanent damage or measurement inaccuracies.
Collision prevention: Ensure that the sensor is securely installed and that moving parts (such as hydraulic cylinder piston rods) do not collide with the sensor body or sensing rod within the range of travel.
3. Check installation status
Regularly check whether the installation bracket and fixing bolts of the sensor are loose, ensuring that the relative position between the sensor and the tested equipment remains unchanged.
Check whether the magnetic ring (position magnet) is firmly installed on the moving parts, whether it is loose, detached, or has weakened magnetism.
4. Cable and connector maintenance
Check whether the signal cables and power cords are worn, crushed, aged, or have loose joints.
Ensure that cable connectors (such as DIN connectors, M12 connectors) are well sealed to prevent moisture and dust from entering.
When routing, avoid excessive bending and stay away from high temperature and strong electromagnetic interference sources.
