What safety precautions should be taken during the use of an artificial lens imaging measuring device?
Date: 2025-12-04Read: 0

The artificial intraocular lens imaging measuring device is a professional equipment used in ophthalmic clinical practice to accurately measure key parameters such as axial length and corneal curvature before surgery. The safety precautions during its use should revolve around the three core dimensions of equipment operation standards, patient safety protection, and environmental and equipment maintenance, as follows:

1、 Safety precautions for patients
Preoperative basic screening and notification: Before the operation, it is necessary to confirm the patient's basic health status, especially whether there is acute eye inflammation (such as conjunctivitis, keratitis), history of eye rupture injury, severe dry eye syndrome, or corneal epithelial defect. If the above problems exist, the measurement should be postponed to avoid aggravating eye damage or causing infection during the operation; At the same time, it is necessary to clearly inform the patient of the measurement process, explain the contact/non-contact operation form of the equipment, relieve the patient's tension, ensure that they can cooperate to keep their head and eyes fixed, and prevent the equipment from colliding with the eyeball due to patient movements, causing accidents such as corneal scratches and sudden increase in intraocular pressure. For children, the elderly, or patients with cognitive impairment, it is necessary to have their family members or medical staff assist in fixing the head, and if necessary, use specialized fixed brackets. It is strictly prohibited to start the measurement procedure when the patient's head is not stable.
Aseptic protection for eye contact operations: If the equipment is for contact measurement (such as some optical biometric instruments that require corneal contact lenses), strict adherence to aseptic operation standards is required: corneal contact lenses need to be sterilized one by one, and the sterilization expiration date should be checked before use. After opening, the lenses should be checked for damage or stains; Before operation, the patient's eyes need to be disinfected on the surface (using medical iodine to gently wipe the eyelids and skin around the eyes to prevent iodine from entering the eyes). The operator should wear sterile gloves, masks, and protective goggles to prevent cross infection. After measurement, it is necessary to promptly administer medical artificial tears or antibiotic eye drops to the patient (as directed by the doctor) to relieve corneal irritation. At the same time, observe whether the patient's eyes have redness, swelling, pain, or other discomfort. If there are any abnormalities, immediate ophthalmic emergency treatment should be carried out.
Adaptation adjustments for special populations: For glaucoma patients, it is necessary to assess the intraocular pressure status in advance, avoid prolonged compression of the eyeball during measurement, and prevent acute elevation of intraocular pressure; For patients with high myopia accompanied by retinal lesions, it is necessary to control the intensity of the equipment light source during operation to avoid additional stimulation of the diseased retina by strong light; Pregnant women and patients wearing electronic implantable devices such as pacemakers need to confirm whether there is a risk of electromagnetic interference with the device, and prioritize non-contact, low electromagnetic radiation measurement modes.
2、 Safety regulations for equipment operation
Before starting the device, it is necessary to check whether the power supply system is stable, confirm that the power cord is not damaged, the plug is in good contact, and avoid equipment failure caused by leakage or unstable voltage; At the same time, check whether the optical components of the equipment (lens, light source, sensor) are clean, free of scratches or stains. If there is dust on the lens, gently wipe it with specialized lens paper. It is strictly prohibited to touch the optical lens directly with hands; In addition, it is necessary to verify the calibration status of the equipment and confirm that the calibration certificate is within its validity period. If it exceeds the calibration cycle, professional calibration must be completed before putting it into use to prevent measurement data errors from causing surgical plan errors.
The parameter control during the operation process is strictly in accordance with the equipment operation manual to set the measurement parameters. Core parameters such as light source power and measurement distance cannot be adjusted without authorization. High light source intensity can easily cause retinal light damage to patients, especially for sensitive populations such as premature infants with retinal lesions. The lowest effective light source intensity should be selected; The measurement distance should be kept within the safe range specified by the equipment. If it is too close, it is easy to squeeze the eyeball, and if it is too far away, effective data cannot be obtained, and it may cause mechanical components of the equipment to collide with the eye. If there is an abnormal alarm (such as light source failure or data transmission interruption) during operation, the operation should be stopped immediately, the power supply of the equipment should be cut off, and professional technicians should investigate the fault before use. It is strictly prohibited to continue measuring forcibly before the alarm is lifted.
After the cleaning and positioning measurement of the postoperative equipment is completed, the parts of the equipment that come into contact with the patient need to be thoroughly disinfected: contact corneal stents can be wiped with 75% medical alcohol for disinfection, and non-contact lenses need to be cleaned with disposable disinfectant wipes; The surface of the equipment should be regularly wiped with chlorine containing disinfectant (avoiding optical components) to keep the equipment clean; At the same time, return the device to the fixed operating platform, turn off the power and unplug the plug, organize the power and data cables, and prevent tripping risks caused by tangled wires.
3、 Environmental and personnel safety measures
The safety requirements for the operating environment require that the equipment be placed in a dry, ventilated, and non strong electromagnetic interference room, avoiding proximity to high-power medical equipment (such as high-frequency electric knives and magnetic resonance equipment) to prevent electromagnetic interference from affecting measurement accuracy; The operating area should be kept clean, with no standing water or debris on the ground, to ensure the safe passage of medical staff and patients; At the same time, emergency lighting equipment and ophthalmic first aid kits (including corneal repair agents, intraocular pressure lowering drugs, sterile gauze, etc.) should be equipped to deal with sudden eye injuries.
Qualification and protection of operators: Operators must undergo professional training and obtain equipment operation qualifications, be familiar with equipment safety regulations and emergency response procedures; Personnel who operate equipment for a long time should take self-protection measures to avoid prolonged exposure to the equipment's light source and prevent eye light damage; During operation, it is necessary to maintain a correct sitting posture to avoid muscle strain caused by improper placement of the equipment. At the same time, regular equipment safety training should be attended to update operational knowledge.
The regular maintenance and scrapping management of equipment requires the establishment of a safety maintenance ledger, which is regularly inspected by manufacturers or professional engineers for comprehensive maintenance, with a focus on the safety of optical systems, mechanical transmission components, and electrical systems. Aging power cords and damaged optical lenses should be replaced in a timely manner; For equipment that has reached the end of its service life or cannot be repaired, it should be disposed of according to the medical equipment scrapping process, and it is strictly prohibited to operate beyond the expiration date or malfunction, in order to eliminate safety hazards.
