Understanding Common Malfunctions and Solutions for Conductivity Testers to Help You Quickly Eliminate Problems
Date: 2025-07-23Read: 2

In water quality analysis, chemical production, and environmental monitoring, conductivity meters are key equipment used to measure the conductivity of solutions. It evaluates the purity or chemical composition of water by detecting the ion concentration in the solution. However, in practical use, some common faults may be encountered, which can affect measurement accuracy and work efficiency. This article will provide a detailed introduction to several common troubleshooting solutions for conductivity measuring instruments, helping you quickly troubleshoot and ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

1、 The reading is unstable
Phenomenon description: The conductivity reading fluctuates frequently, making it difficult to obtain stable values.
Possible reasons and solutions:
Electrode contamination: After prolonged use, dirt or sediment may accumulate on the surface of the electrode, leading to poor contact. Regularly clean the electrodes and use specialized cleaning agents as needed to remove contaminants.
Temperature variation: Conductivity is highly sensitive to temperature. Ensure a constant sample temperature or use an instrument with automatic temperature compensation to reduce errors caused by temperature changes.
Electrode aging: If the electrode has been used for a long time, there may be aging phenomenon. Consider replacing the electrode with a new one to restore measurement accuracy.
2、 Large reading deviation
Phenomenon description: There is a significant deviation between the measurement results and the standard values.
Possible reasons and solutions:
Improper calibration: Ensure proper calibration is performed before each use. Perform single or multi-point calibration using standard solutions (such as KCl solution) and follow the manufacturer's recommended steps.
Electrode damage: Check for physical damage or cracks on the electrode. If necessary, replace damaged parts in a timely manner.
Solution interference: Certain organic solutes or high viscosity liquids may interfere with conductivity measurements. Try diluting the sample or choosing a measurement method that is more suitable for this type of substance.
3、 Display screen abnormality
Phenomenon description: The display screen shows garbled text, flickering, or no display.
Possible reasons and solutions:
Power issue: Check if the battery is fully charged or confirm if the power adapter is securely connected. Replace the battery or repair the power cord if necessary.
Circuit board malfunction: If the power supply is normal but the screen still does not display, it may be due to an internal circuit board malfunction. Contact professional technicians for maintenance or replacement of corresponding components.
Software error: Restart the device or perform a reset operation according to the instructions in the manual. For intelligent conductivity meters, updating the firmware may also solve the problem.
4、 Slow electrode response
Phenomenon description: The electrode responds slowly to changes in the solution, with a long delay time.
Possible reasons and solutions:
Electrode membrane blockage: Check if the electrode membrane is blocked by impurities. Rinse with clean water and gently wipe the electrode surface. If necessary, use an ultrasonic cleaning machine to remove blockages.
Electrolyte depletion: For filled electrodes, check if the internal electrolyte is sufficient. Add an appropriate amount of new electrolyte to restore electrode performance.
Electrode aging: Long term use of electrodes may result in decreased sensitivity. Consider replacing the electrode with a new one to improve response speed.
