What should be noted when using an automatic potentiometric titrator?
Date: 2025-07-30Read: 3
Automatic Potentiometric TitratorIt is an analytical instrument designed based on the principle of potential method, widely used in the field of capacity analysis. It determines the endpoint of titration by measuring potential changes, and has the characteristics of high sensitivity, high accuracy, and automated operation, suitable for various types of titration analysis.
Application Scenario:
Acid base titration: detecting the acid/alkali content in the sample, commonly using pH glass electrodes.
Redox titration: such as COD (chemical oxygen demand) determination in water, analysis of Fe ² ⁺ content in iron ore, and monitoring of potential changes using platinum electrodes.
Precipitation titration: For the determination of chloride ion (Cl ⁻) content in water (using silver nitrate titration), a silver electrode is used as the indicator electrode.
Complexation titration: such as EDTA titration to determine metal ions (Ca ² ⁺, Mg ² ⁺, etc.), using a metal ion selective electrode.
Non aqueous titration: used for the analysis of samples in organic solvents (such as alkaline substances in oil products), requiring a dedicated non-aqueous electrode.
  Automatic Potentiometric TitratorPrecautions for use:
1. Electrode calibration: Before use, it is necessary to calibrate the electrode with standard buffer solution (acid-base titration) or standard solution (ion titration) to ensure accurate potential measurement. The calibration cycle depends on the frequency of use.
2. Preparation of titrant: The titrant needs to be accurately prepared, and bubbles should be expelled before being loaded into the burette to avoid volume errors caused by bubbles.
3. Sample pretreatment: Ensure that the sample solution is uniform, free of suspended impurities (filter if necessary), and avoid clogging the titration head or contaminating the electrode.
4. Endpoint parameter setting: Adjust the jump threshold according to the reaction type (for example, if the pH jump in acid-base titration is large, the threshold can be set low; The weak response jump is small, and the threshold needs to be increased to avoid misjudging the endpoint.
5. Maintenance: After titration, clean the electrode and titration head with distilled water; When not in use for a long time, the electrode should be stored according to the instructions.
