Hunan Building Materials Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., formerly known as Hunan Building Materials Research and Design Institute, was established in 1958. It was one of the four research and design units that were awarded the National Building Materials Industry Design and Engineering General Contracting Class A Qualification in 1993. In 2002, the survey and design units in Hunan Province were restructured and Hunan Building Materials Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. was established, abbreviated as Hunan Building Materials Institute (HNBMI).

Hunan Building Materials Institute is one of the comprehensive design, scientific research and testing units with complete qualifications in the building materials industry in the central and southern regions of China. It has national first-class qualifications in cement engineering, construction engineering, non-metallic mining engineering, new building materials engineering design, engineering general contracting, engineering consulting, and engineering supervision, second-class qualifications in municipal engineering, metallurgical mining engineering design, and engineering geological survey, as well as authorization for quality supervision and inspection of building materials in Hunan Province. In recent years, Hunan Building Materials Institute has actively explored and innovated, accelerated transformation and upgrading, and has now grown into a comprehensive enterprise integrating engineering consulting, engineering testing, engineering design, project management, technology and equipment development, equipment supply, engineering general contracting, and operation and maintenance in the building materials and construction industries.
