Difference between organic solvent spray dryer and spray dryer

The main difference between organic solvent spray dryers and ordinary spray dryers is the difference in design and operation, which is mainly caused by the different properties of water and organic solvents. Here isMain differences:
(1) Solvent properties and safety: Water is non-toxic, non flammable, highly safe, and does not require special explosion-proof design. Organic solvents (such as ethanol, acetone, etc.) are flammable and explosive, and some are toxic, requiring explosion-proof design and sealed operation.
(2) Differences in equipment design: Organic solvent based equipment must comply with explosion-proof standards, use explosion-proof electrical appliances, static elimination devices, and may be equipped with a nitrogen circulation system. Water solvent equipment does not require explosion-proof design. Organic solvent type is usually a closed-loop system, and solvent vapor needs to be condensed and recovered; Water solvent systems are mostly open circuit systems, where water vapor is directly discharged into the atmosphere. In terms of material selection, organic solvent type requires corrosion-resistant materials, while water solvent type ordinary 304 stainless steel is sufficient.
(3) Drying process parameters: Water solvents usually require a higher inlet air temperature (150-300 ° C) due to slow water evaporation; The inlet temperature of organic solvents is relatively low (80-150 ° C) to avoid the decomposition of heat sensitive substances or solvent flash ignition. After the organic solvent is dried, it needs to be subjected to condensation recovery+activated carbon adsorption or combustion treatment, which complies with environmental regulations.
(4) Application areas: Water solvent based materials are widely used in fields such as food, medicine, ceramic powders, etc; Organic solvent based products are used for chemicals, pesticides, nanomaterials, and other products that require moisture avoidance.
(5) Cost difference: Organic solvent equipment has high prices, complex maintenance, and requires solvent recovery costs; The cost of water solvent equipment is relatively low.
To sum up, organic solvent spray dryer is more complex in design and operation and has higher cost, but its application in specific fields cannot be replaced. Ordinary spray dryer has advantages in safety, cost and ease of operation
