Tips for using a portable SDI analyzer
Date: 2025-07-10Read: 2
In water treatment sites and laboratory settings,Portable SDI (Pollution Index) analyzerBy virtue of its easy operation and rapid response, it provides a key basis for evaluating the effectiveness of membrane system pretreatment such as reverse osmosis. The following is a detailed explanation of its usage tips.
Before implementation, thorough preparation is the starting point for smooth testing. First, carefully inspect the appearance of the measuring instrument to ensure that there is no damage, the buttons are sensitive, and the battery is sufficient; Next, use the standard cleaning cloth dipped in a small amount of alcohol to gently wipe the measuring probe and housing, removing any possible stains or fingerprints to prevent interference with signal transmission; Refer to the instruction manual again, correctly install the compatible test membrane, tightly tighten the fixing device, and eliminate the risk of liquid leakage.

During practical operation, follow the standard procedures in sequence. Place the instrument steadily next to the container of the water sample to be tested, connect the inlet and outlet pipes, open the inlet valve, and allow the water sample to flow through the test membrane at a stable flow rate to simulate the operating conditions of the membrane system. The flow rate is usually controlled at 3-5 milliliters per second, which can cause data distortion if it is too fast and prolong the detection time if it is too slow; Then start the timer and synchronously pay attention to the changes in pressure gauge readings. The pressure difference at different time periods reflects the difficulty of water flow penetrating the diaphragm.
During the data reading process, it is necessary to patiently wait for the specified duration, usually 15-30 minutes, to maintain stable water flow and avoid shaking the instrument. As soon as the time is up, quickly close the inlet valve and stop the water supply. At this point, the pressure gauge will lock the value and combine it with the initial reading to calculate the SDI value using the formula. The formula takes into account factors such as water flow pressure difference and time, accurately quantifying the degree of water sample pollution. The higher the value, the greater the risk of membrane system contamination.
Testing completed, carefully maintain the instrument. Timely empty the remaining water sample inside, dismantle the test membrane, rinse the probe and pipeline with clean water, and remove any attached impurities; Wipe the body, dry it and store it properly in a dedicated storage box. Regularly calibrate the pressure gauge and check the battery level to ensure that the performance is "full" for the next use, ready for use at any time.
From preparation to operation, and then to final maintenance, the portable SDI analyzer can accurately monitor water quality in the palm of your hand, providing practical guidance for optimizing water treatment processes and ensuring the long-term stable operation of membrane systems, shining on the front line of water management.
