After the opening ceremony of the conference, Professor Zhou Ji from Tsinghua University and Professor Zhang Lianmeng from Wuhan University of Technology respectively delivered conference reports titled "Metamaterials and Their Integration with Conventional Materials" and "A Brief Discussion on the Function, Design, and Construction Technology of Gradient Materials". The two academicians explained the functional properties of metamaterials and gradient materials to young scholars and students in an easy to understand manner, and combined their years of scientific experience to put forward some constructive suggestions to the attending young scholars; Professor Bao Yiwang of China National Academy of Building Materials Science, Professor Yang Chao of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Feng Jing of Kunming University of Science and Technology respectively made reports on the conference entitled "Thoughts and Skills of Relative Method for Material Performance Evaluation", "Opportunities and Adversities in Topic Selection: From Basic Research to Industrial Research", and "On the Scientific Research Orientation of Postgraduates in Materials Discipline". Three generations of material researchers, aged, middle-aged, and young, have respectively explained to young scholars and students from their respective research perspectives how to conduct scientific thinking in the field of materials and how to persist in scientific research.
