This application brief introduces the rapid and effective separation of FAME mixed standards using an Agilent Intuvo 9000 gas chromatography system equipped with an Agilent J&W DB FastFAME Intuvo gas chromatography column.
Preface
The analysis of oils, fats, and high-fat foods is a common task in government laboratories, quality control (QC) laboratories, or contract research organization (CRO) laboratories. Gas chromatography analysis of fatty acids and their FAME derivatives is an important tool for fat characterization when determining the total fat and trans fat content in food. Many regulatory methods used for food (such as edible oil) detection require the use of capillary columns coated with cyanopropyl stationary phases to separate specific cis trans fatty acid isomers when determining fatty acid composition. In addition, achieving good FAME separation requires longer gas chromatography columns (100 meters) and longer analysis times (over 70 minutes) 3,4. However, this method has low analysis efficiency and high analysis costs. For this purpose, we have specifically designed a DB FastFAME Intuvo gas chromatography column using a cyanopropyl stationary phase, which can achieve rapid separation of FAME mixtures (including separation of some key cis trans isomers) and meet the requirements of regulatory methods.
