On May 10-11, 2018, in order to further improve the testing capabilities of Linyi City's disease control system laboratory, the Linyi City Disease Control System Atomic Spectroscopy Instrument Training Course was held in Feixian. The training course hired senior engineers from PerkinElmer in the United States and Shandong Weiwen Instrument Equipment Company to conduct in-depth technical discussions and answer questions on the principles, analysis methods, sample analysis and data processing, complex matrix standard addition method, instrument daily maintenance and troubleshooting of atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) through a combination of theoretical explanation, computer operation and communication and discussion. More than 40 leaders and laboratory technicians from the disease control centers in each county and district participated.

The trainers for this training include Yang Renkang, a technical expert with over 30 years of experience at PerkinElmer's Shanghai headquarters, Yao Yuanjie, a senior hardware repair engineer from Shandong, Zhang Ping, a technical support from Beijing Customer Experience Center, and Yue Weixi, a technical support from Shandong. In this training, users and manufacturers had in-depth and thorough communication and discussion. Experts from PerkinElmer provided detailed introductions to the basic principles, structure, software operation, and hardware maintenance of the instrument, and demonstrated the skills of using the instrument, from basic operations to complex matrix comparison and assessment, laying a solid foundation for users.

As a veteran figure with over 30 years of experience in the industry, Professor Yang Renkang has changed the traditional teaching method. In addition to allowing users to master conventional theoretical knowledge and instrument operation, Professor Yang pointed out that during the use of the instrument, users will encounter various types of samples, and basic instrument operation alone is not enough. As experimental testing personnel, we play an important role in quality control. Therefore, when users encounter various types of samples, they must be able to handle them skillfully, optimize experimental conditions, and obtain correct and reliable results. Only then can they be considered good instruments and qualified analysts.

In order to enable the experimental operators participating in the training to have a more solid grasp of optimizing various experimental conditions, Teacher Yang shared his years of experience with everyone and allowed them to try different effects produced by different experimental conditions during the hands-on operation process. This allowed everyone to combine theory with practice, leaving a deeper impression. Everyone's enthusiasm and interest increased, and they personally tried the instruments. Some of the experimenters who have just started working with spectroscopic instruments are full of confidence, stating that through this easy to understand explanation, they have laid the groundwork for future detection work. And the experimental personnel who have operated spectral instruments for many years also highly praised Professor Yang's teaching method, saying that it has overturned their views on spectral analysis. They used to memorize various conditions, but after this training, no matter what substrate samples they encounter, they can have more flexibility.
