What are the details to follow when using a hydrogen generator
Date: 2025-08-18Read: 2
As the core equipment for laboratory hydrogen supply, the standardized use of hydrogen generators is directly related to experimental safety and data accuracy. The following outlines the key details of the entire operation process, covering four major modules: environment preparation, start-up and operation, daily maintenance, and emergency response, with the aim of building a standardized operating system.
1、 Environmental adaptation and installation specifications
1. Space layout: It should be placed in a fume hood or an independent ventilated area, kept at a certain distance from open sources of fire, away from high-temperature heat sources and windows with direct sunlight. Reserve sufficient maintenance space behind the equipment for easy maintenance of the cooling fan.
2. Power supply requirements: Use a dedicated circuit for power supply, and the voltage fluctuation range should be controlled within ± a specific percentage. The power line diameter should match the power of the equipment, and the grounding resistance should be less than a specific ohm to prevent the risk of explosion caused by static electricity accumulation.
3. Gas connection: It is recommended to use stainless steel corrugated pipes for the output pipeline, and apply an appropriate amount of silicone grease to the interface to enhance sealing. Installation requires an air tightness test. The system should be pressurized to working pressure and soaked in water until no continuous bubbles are generated, which is considered qualified.
2、 Standardized inspection before startup
1. Electrolyte management: Check if the liquid level in the storage tank is between the upper and lower limit markings, and if it is insufficient, replenish the specified concentration of potassium hydroxide solution. Be careful not to mix organic impurities into the electrolyte. When replacing, empty the old liquid and clean the storage tank.
2. Parameter pre setting: Set the output pressure according to the hydrogen demand. It is recommended to gradually increase it from low pressure during initial use and observe the stability of the pressure gauge pointer. The flow display screen needs to be zeroed and calibrated to avoid residual memory values affecting measurement accuracy.
3. Self check program execution: Activate the built-in diagnostic system before starting, focusing on checking the saturation of the drying tube, scaling of the electrode plate, and fan speed. If the alarm light flashes, it is necessary to troubleshoot the corresponding fault point according to the code manual in the instruction manual.
3、 Dynamic monitoring during operation
1. Real time data collection: Record output pressure, flow rate, and temperature values every half hour, draw trend curves to monitor abnormal fluctuations. When the pressure drops sharply beyond a specific ratio, immediately turn off the power and check the air circuit connector.
2. Maintenance of dehumidification system: Observe the color change indicator window of the desiccant. Once it turns from blue to pink, replace the molecular sieve packing. When regenerating the drying tower, the gas source should be cut off to prevent humid air from flowing back into the hydrogen supply end.
3. Optimization of electrolysis efficiency: Regularly clean the platinum plating chromatogram on the electrode surface, use a soft bristled brush dipped in dilute citric acid solution to gently wipe, and do not damage the electrode substrate. Maintaining the operating temperature of the electrolytic cell within a certain range can prolong the membrane life.
4、 Shutdown and daily maintenance
1. Orderly shutdown process: First, close the load side valve to relieve the system pressure, and then cut off the power after the pressure reading returns to zero. Long term shutdown requires emptying the electrolyte and injecting nitrogen for sealing to prevent oxidation of metal components.
2. Periodic maintenance plan: Clean the filter element every month, and the replacement cycle should not exceed a specific duration; Calibrate the accuracy of the flowmeter quarterly, and send it to a professional organization for calibration when the error exceeds a certain proportion.
3. Safety protection enhancement: Operators must wear goggles and anti-static gloves, and portable combustible gas detectors should be equipped on site. The laboratory should post no fire signs and equip with carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment.
5、 Emergency response plan
In case of sudden leakage, immediately cut off the main power and turn on the exhaust system. It is strictly prohibited to turn on or off electrical switches. A small amount of leakage can be diluted and dispersed with inert gas, while a large amount of leakage needs to be quickly evacuated and reported to a professional team for disposal. Regularly organize emergency drills to ensure that all personnel are familiar with the disposal process.
