Operation and storage specifications for rock pyrolysis instrument
Date: 2025-09-10Read: 22
Rock pyrolysis instrumentIt is an analytical instrument that uses programmed heating of rock samples to detect released hydrocarbons and gases, in order to analyze their organic matter content and pyrolysis characteristics. It is widely used in the fields of energy exploration and geological research.
Principle:
The pyrolysis furnace heats rock samples under programmed heating conditions, and the three peaks S0, S1, S2, and Tmax (or five peaks S0, S1, S21, S22, S23) are quantitatively detected by FID. During pyrolysis, carbon dioxide is detected by an infrared detector for S3 (organic and mineral carbon monoxide S3CO and S3 ˊ CO, organic and mineral carbon dioxide S3 and S3 ˊ are detected separately). After pyrolysis, the residual carbon in the sample is heated by an oxidation furnace and detected by an infrared detector for residual organic carbon S4 and residual mineral carbon S5, thereby calculating the total organic carbon TOC and mineral carbon content MinC in the sample.
Daily cleaning and maintenance:
Sample residue cleaning: After each use, residual samples in the pyrolysis furnace should be removed to avoid cross contamination. It is recommended to use specialized tools (such as ceramic scrapers) to clean quartz tubes and crucibles, and avoid using metal brushes to prevent scratches.
Detector cleaning: The nozzle of the hydrogen flame ionization detector (FID) should be wiped with an anhydrous ethanol cotton swab, and the window of the infrared detector should be cleaned with lens paper to prevent carbon buildup from affecting sensitivity.
Key component inspection and replacement:
Sealing system: Check the furnace body sealing ring and gas pipeline interface every month. Aging or damaged sealing rings need to be replaced immediately (recommended high temperature resistant silicone material).
Heating element: Regularly observe the status of the heating wire. If oxidation, blackening or breakage occurs, it needs to be replaced to avoid abnormal temperature control.
Operation and storage specifications:
Gas management: The hydrogen pressure should be stable at 0.15-0.25MPa, and the main valve of the gas cylinder should be closed after use; Nitrogen purity ≥ 99.999%.
Long term storage: When the equipment is not in use for more than one month, the pipeline gas should be emptied, the furnace body should be filled with nitrogen for protection, and the storage environment humidity should be ≤ 60%. ‌
