Sharing the functional characteristics of the main components of low-speed desktop centrifuges
Date: 2025-04-16Read: 1
Low speed desktop centrifuge is a laboratory equipment that uses centrifugal force to achieve material separation, widely used in fields such as biology, chemistry, and medicine. Its rotational speed is usually between 500 and 6000 rpm, and the relative centrifugal force can reach 5250 × g. It is suitable for qualitative analysis of samples such as serum, plasma, and urine. The device is driven by a brushless motor and equipped with an intelligent control system. It supports LCD color display of parameters such as speed, centrifugal force, and time, and has 10 self diagnostic protection functions to ensure safe operation.
In order to better understand and use low-speed desktop centrifuges, it is necessary to understand the functional characteristics of their main components.

1. Host body
The main body is the core framework, usually made of sturdy metal materials to ensure stability and safety during high-speed rotation. The main body contains a motor and a drive system, which are responsible for driving the rotor to rotate. A high-quality host design can not only withstand the mechanical stress caused by long-term operation, but also effectively reduce noise and vibration.
2. Rotor components
The rotor component is the key part that carries the sample tube and achieves separation. According to different application scenarios, rotors can be divided into two types: fixed angle rotors and oscillating rotors:
(1) Fixed angle rotor: The sample tube is tilted and suitable for quickly settling larger particles.
(2) Swinging rotor: The sample tube is placed vertically and will expand horizontally with the centrifugal force during rotation, suitable for separating small particles or cells.
Choosing the appropriate rotor is crucial for achieving the desired separation effect. In addition, the design of the rotor also needs to consider the ease of loading and unloading the sample tube, and to have good balance to prevent vibration.
3. Control panel
The control panel provides an interface for users to set centrifugal speed, time, and other parameters. Modern devices are typically equipped with intuitive LCD displays and touch buttons, making it easy for users to perform precise operations. Some models also support programming functions, allowing preset multiple working modes to improve experimental efficiency.
4. Safety protection device
Due to the strong centrifugal force generated during operation, safety protection devices are crucial. Common safety measures include automatic door locks, imbalance detection, and emergency braking systems. When abnormal conditions are detected (such as rotor imbalance or overheating), the equipment will immediately stop running and issue an alarm to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
5. Refrigeration system (optional)
Some applications require centrifugation under low temperature conditions to maintain sample activity or avoid denaturation. For this purpose, some devices are equipped with refrigeration systems that can maintain a constant working environment within a set temperature range. An efficient refrigeration system can not only rapidly cool down, but also ensure temperature stability throughout the entire centrifugation process.
6. Sample tube adapter
In order to accommodate sample tubes of different specifications, many centrifuges offer adapters of various sizes. These adapters are installed on the rotor to ensure that the sample tube is securely fixed in the correct position, avoiding safety hazards caused by looseness.
Through the above introduction, the functional characteristics of each component of the low-speed desktop centrifuge can be seen. Correctly understanding and using these components can not only improve work efficiency, but also ensure the safety and accuracy of experiments. I hope this article can help you better understand how to effectively use it.
