How should the display screen of a gas detector be cleaned?
Date: 2025-12-23Read: 2

The display screen of gas detectors is mostly made of liquid crystal (LCD) or organic light-emitting (OLED) materials, which may have scratch resistant coatings or electrostatic protection layers on the surface. When cleaning, it is necessary to follow the principles of gentleness, non damage, and anti liquid infiltration to avoid damaging the display screen or affecting the sealing and electrical safety of the instrument. The following are specific cleaning steps and precautions:

1、 Preparation before cleaning
Power off and shut down, disconnect the power supply
Before cleaning, the gas detector must be turned off. For portable devices, the battery needs to be removed, and for fixed devices, the power supply must be cut off. Live cleaning is strictly prohibited to prevent liquid from seeping into the interior of the machine and causing short circuits. At the same time, it is important to avoid triggering alarms or data errors by accidentally touching buttons.
Prepare specialized cleaning tools and consumables
Tool: Ultra fine fiber dust-free cloth (priority should be given to glasses cloth and camera lens cloth, avoid using ordinary cloths and tissues, as these materials have rough fibers and are prone to scratching the screen coating or leaving paper scraps); If there are stubborn stains, they can be paired with soft cotton swabs (such as medical degreasing cotton swabs).
Cleaning agent: Prioritize the use of anhydrous ethanol (analytical grade) or specialized screen cleaning solution; It is strictly prohibited to use corrosive liquids such as reagents with an alcohol concentration greater than 95%, acetone, gasoline, acidic and alkaline cleaners, which can dissolve the screen coating and cause permanent damage.
Auxiliary tool: If there are dust particles on the screen, you can first use an airbag dust blower or a soft bristled brush to gently blow off the dust to avoid scratching the screen during wiping.
2、 Specific cleaning steps
Remove surface floating dust
Aim the airbag dust blower at the surface of the screen and gently blow air to remove any attached dust and particles; If there is no dust blower, the ultra-fine fiber cloth can be folded into small pieces and gently tapped on the surface of the screen to remove floating dust. Direct dry wiping is prohibited to prevent dust particles from rubbing and scratching the screen.
Wet cleaning cloth, gently wipe
Take a small amount of anhydrous ethanol or specialized cleaning solution and spray it on a corner of the ultra-fine fiber cloth (note: it is strictly forbidden to directly spray the liquid on the surface of the display screen to avoid the liquid seeping into the interior of the machine along the edge of the screen). Wet the cloth to a "slightly wet" state and do not drip water.
Gently wipe the screen in a unidirectional straight line, moving at a constant speed from one side of the screen to the other, avoiding back and forth friction; For screen edges, corners, and other gaps, a cotton swab can be dipped in a small amount of cleaning solution and gently wiped with gentle force to prevent cotton swab fibers from remaining or puncturing the gap sealant.
Stubborn stain treatment
If there are stubborn stains such as fingerprints and oil stains on the screen, you can gently wipe the stain repeatedly or increase the moisture level of the cleaning cloth appropriately, but always keep it "slightly wet"; If the stain still cannot be removed, a clean cleaning cloth and reagent can be replaced to avoid repeatedly using the same area of cloth surface and prevent the stain from transferring.
Drying and inspection
After wiping, place the instrument in a ventilated and dry environment and let it stand for 5-10 minutes. After the cleaning agent on the screen surface has completely evaporated, perform a power on check to confirm that the display screen is clear, without spots or stripes, and that the buttons and body are normal.
3、 Cleaning precautions
Avoid liquid infiltration
The seam between the display screen and the body of the gas detector is a sealed weak area. When cleaning, excessive liquid can easily penetrate the interior, causing short circuits on the circuit board and sensor failure. Therefore, all liquids must be attached to the cloth instead of directly contacting the screen.
Disable hard tools
It is strictly prohibited to use hard tools such as steel wire balls, blades, and hard brushes to scratch the screen, nor to use nails to remove stains, otherwise it will scratch the screen coating and affect display clarity.
Additional requirements for screens made of special materials
If there is an anti fingerprint coating on the surface of the display screen, the cleaning frequency should be reduced, and a cloth moistened with pure water should be used first to wipe, avoiding frequent use of alcohol that can accelerate the aging of the coating; OLED screens are more fragile than LCD screens, and the wiping force needs to be gentler.
Regular cleaning and maintenance as needed
The cleaning frequency depends on the usage environment: it is recommended to clean once a week in industrial sites and scenes with a lot of dust; The laboratory and indoor cleaning environment can be cleaned once a month. After cleaning, promptly record the maintenance status and include it in the instrument maintenance file.
