The use and maintenance of metal capillary columns
Date: 2025-11-24Read: 1
Metal capillary columnIt is a key consumable commonly used in gas chromatography analysis, which uses metal as a carrier and achieves efficient separation of samples by coating a special stationary phase on the inner wall.
  Metal capillary columnPerformance advantages
High permeability: The permeability is generally about 100 times higher than that of a packed column, which allows for the use of longer columns under the same pre column pressure, while maintaining the same linear velocity of the carrier gas, which is beneficial for improving separation efficiency.
Compared to large: Compared to large, it is beneficial to improve mass transfer speed, thereby accelerating the analysis process and reducing analysis time.
High efficiency separation: The separation efficiency is 10-100 times higher than that of packed columns, mainly due to its open tube column structure and extremely thin inner wall fixed liquid film, which effectively reduces spectral band broadening and improves separation efficiency.
High sensitivity and resolution: Using metal as the carrier and coated with a special stationary phase on the surface, this design endows it with high sensitivity and resolution, enabling the detection of extremely small amounts of substances and achieving efficient separation of similar compounds in complex samples.
Precautions for use and maintenance:
Installation and use: Follow scientific and standardized usage steps to ensure the cleanliness of the gas path of the gas chromatograph, with a carrier gas purity of ≥ 99.999%, and undergo dehydration and deoxygenation purification.
Temperature control: Based on the type of stationary phase and the properties of the sample, set the column temperature program reasonably to avoid excessive temperature that may cause loss of the stationary phase or decomposition of the sample.
Sample processing: The sample should undergo appropriate pretreatment, such as filtration, extraction, etc., to reduce the impact of impurities on column efficiency.
Maintenance and upkeep: Regularly clean the column to avoid long-term effects of residual samples on column efficiency. After use, the column should be properly stored to avoid mechanical damage or contamination.
