Measurement method of micro tide gauge
Date: 2025-05-27Read: 1
A micro tide gauge is a small device specifically designed to measure changes in tide levels in the ocean or water bodies, typically used in fields such as ocean monitoring and environmental monitoring. The measurement methods generally include the following:
1. Pressure sensing method
Principle: The micro tide gauge measures the pressure above the water column through a pressure sensor (such as a resistive sensor, piezoelectric sensor, etc.). Water depth is directly proportional to pressure, and changes in tide level can cause changes in water depth, thereby affecting the readings of pressure sensors.
Application: Commonly used for deep water areas and high-precision tidal level monitoring. By precise pressure measurement, changes in tide level can be obtained.
2. Float method
Principle: The buoy floats on the water surface and moves up and down with the rise and fall of the tide. The sensors inside the device detect the displacement of the buoy and calculate the tide level based on the displacement.
Application: Suitable for nearshore or areas with slow water flow, the equipment is simple and easy to install.
3. Radar or laser ranging method
Principle: Measure the distance between the water surface and the instrument by emitting radar waves or laser beams. With the change of tide level, the height of the water surface changes, reflecting the change of tide level.
Application: Suitable for measurement scenarios with high precision requirements, especially in complex water environments.
4. Capacitive measurement method
Principle: This method measures the change in capacitance between the water surface and the sensor through a capacitive sensor. The change in capacitance is proportional to the height of the water surface, thus calculating the tide level.
Application: This method has high accuracy and is suitable for static water surfaces or environments with small fluctuations.
5. Optical method
Principle: By using optical sensors (such as laser or infrared sensors) to detect changes in the water surface, a beam of light is emitted from the sensor to the water surface. The changes in the water surface will cause changes in the reflected light intensity back to the sensor, thereby calculating the tide level.
Application: Commonly used in small measuring devices, especially in clear water bodies, with good results.
6. Sonar method
Principle: Through the principle of sound wave reflection, the sonar system emits sound waves and receives their reflections on the water surface or underwater objects. The change in tide level is estimated by calculating the reflection time.
Application: Suitable for complex water environments, such as shallow water or water bodies containing suspended solids, with strong adaptability.
These methods can choose different sensors and measurement techniques depending on the application scenario and accuracy requirements. Micro tide gauges generally integrate multiple technologies mentioned above, with high accuracy and strong anti-interference ability, suitable for monitoring tide levels in various marine and inland water bodies.
