What is an LED solar simulator? The core difference between it and xenon lamp simulator
Date: 2025-11-04Read: 1
LED solar simulator is a device that uses LED as the core light source, and accurately simulates the spectral distribution, illumination intensity, and spatial uniformity of sunlight through multi wavelength LED bead combination and spectral control technology. Its core principle is based on the semiconductor electroluminescence effect, which achieves full spectrum coverage of 350-1150nm through an array LED layout and an optical mixing system. The spectral matching can reach the A+level standard (error ≤ 1%), and supports millisecond level dynamic adjustment. It is suitable for scenarios such as photovoltaic cell IV characteristic testing, photocatalytic research, and plant growth simulation.
The core differences from xenon lamp simulators are as follows:
Spectral matching degree
The LED simulator achieves high-precision spectral fitting through the combination of multi wavelength LEDs, without relying on filters to meet the AM1.5G standard. The short-circuit current deviation in the 400-700nm band is less than 1%; Although the spectrum of the xenon lamp simulator is continuous, there are inherent peaks such as excess blue light, which need to be corrected through a filter. After aging, the spectral matching degree decreases, which may lead to an Isc deviation of 14.7%.
Light stability
The LED simulator adopts a real-time feedback system, with a light fluctuation of ≤ 0.5% within 20 minutes and uniformity better than 2% (5 × 5 meter area); The xenon lamp simulator is limited by the structure of the light bulb, with a difference of ± 5% between the center and edge light intensity, and long-term fluctuations can reach ± 2% or more.
Regulation ability and lifespan
The LED simulator supports millisecond level switching, with a lifespan of over 10000 hours and low maintenance costs; The xenon lamp simulator requires high voltage pulses to start, with a lifespan of only 800-1000 hours, and requires regular replacement of bulbs and filters.
Energy consumption and heat dissipation
LED simulator reduces energy consumption by about 70% and has low heat dissipation requirements; Xenon lamp simulators have high energy consumption, poor heat dissipation performance, and are prone to overheating after prolonged operation.
Application scenario adaptability: LED simulators are suitable for high-precision photovoltaic testing, photocatalytic research, and long-term material aging experiments; Xenon lamp simulators are suitable for scenarios that require high spectral continuity but have a high tolerance for accuracy, such as weather resistance testing of car headlights.
