Key technical characteristics and application scenarios of Thermo Fisher metal detectors
Date: 2025-09-16Read: 1
In the food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, metal foreign objects (such as stainless steel screws, copper wire, and iron filings) mixed into products may pose health risks to consumers (such as digestive tract damage) or equipment damage (such as blocked pipelines). Therefore, metal detection is a key link in quality control. Thermo Fisher metal detectors have become the "metal hunters" on production lines with their core technology of "high sensitivity+anti-interference". Their key technical features and application scenarios cover the precise detection needs of multiple industries.
1、 Key technical features:
Thermo Fisher Metal DetectorThe core competitiveness stems from three major technological breakthroughs:
Multi frequency composite detection: Traditional metal detectors only use a single frequency (such as 800kHz), resulting in significant differences in sensitivity for detecting metals of different materials (such as iron, which is easy to detect, and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and copper, which have low sensitivity). Thermo Fisher Scientific adopts the "dual frequency/multi frequency synchronous scanning" technology, which can simultaneously emit electromagnetic waves of multiple frequencies (such as detecting iron at a low frequency of 80kHz and detecting non-ferrous metals at a high frequency of 300kHz). Through intelligent algorithms, the signal differences at different frequencies are analyzed to achieve balanced detection of all material metal foreign objects such as iron, stainless steel (316L), aluminum, etc. (smaller ones can detect iron balls with a diameter of 0.3mm or stainless steel wires with a diameter of 0.5mm).
Adaptive anti-interference: Vibration, temperature changes (± 10 ℃), and metal frames of conveyor belts in the production line environment can easily generate electromagnetic noise and interfere with metal detection signals. The Thermo Fisher detector is equipped with a "dynamic baseline calibration" module, which automatically adjusts the detection threshold every second to offset environmental fluctuations; At the same time, "phase tracking technology" is used to distinguish between metal signals and background noise (such as pulse interference generated by conveyor belt joints), reducing the false rejection rate to below 0.1% (traditional equipment false rejection rate>1%).
Intelligent self-learning function: When the device is first used, it automatically records the electromagnetic characteristics (such as dielectric constant and conductivity) of the current product (such as high salt pickled foods and metal packaged drugs) through the "one click learning mode", and generates exclusive detection parameter templates. In subsequent production, the system can automatically call templates based on changes in product batches, without the need for manual repeated debugging, adapting to the multi variety and small batch production mode.

2、 Application scenarios:
Food industry: In the production lines of baked goods (such as cookies), meat products (such as sausages), and snacks (such as candies), metal knife fragments, packaging steel wires, or sand and metal impurities mixed in are detected to ensure food safety (in accordance with HACCP system requirements) and avoid brand losses caused by consumer complaints.
Pharmaceutical industry: For products such as capsules, tablets, and traditional Chinese medicine granules, metal shavings generated by wear and tear of production equipment (such as steel particles from tablet presses) or metal foreign objects in raw materials (such as iron wires carried by traditional Chinese medicine) are detected to meet the strict standards of FDA and EU EDQM for drug purity (such as USP<2232>heavy metal control requirements).
Chemical and daily chemical industries: In the production of plastic pellets and cosmetic raw materials (such as powdered skincare products), residual metal catalysts or packaging material debris are detected to protect downstream equipment (such as injection molding machines and filling machines) from metal wear and damage.
From "precise detection" to "intelligent anti-interference",Thermo Fisher Metal DetectorThrough technological breakthroughs, the detection standards for metal foreign objects have been redefined, becoming a "safety gate" on multi industry production lines, safeguarding product quality and consumer health.
