Soil moisture observation instrumentIt is a specialized instrument used for precise measurement of soil moisture content, playing a key role in many fields such as agriculture, forestry, meteorology, and water conservancy. It usually consists of two parts: sensors and display recording devices. Sensors are core components that generally use advanced frequency domain reflection principles or time domain reflection principles. These sensors can penetrate deep into the soil and accurately sense the dielectric constant of the soil. The soil moisture content is closely related to the dielectric constant, and through complex algorithm conversion, accurate soil moisture values can be obtained. Its probe design is diverse, with different types such as single needle and multi needle, which can adapt to measurement needs of different depths and accuracies.
Soil moisture observation instrumentIt is an important equipment for accurately monitoring soil moisture, and proper daily maintenance can extend its service life and ensure data accuracy. The following are detailed maintenance methods:
1、 Maintenance of sensors
Sensors are the core components of observation instruments that come into direct contact with soil and require special maintenance
Regular cleaning: After each use or before long-term storage, use a soft cloth or brush to remove soil and impurities from the surface of the sensor, to avoid soil residue blocking the pores and affecting measurement accuracy. If there are stubborn stains, gently rinse with clean water (be careful not to directly impact the internal components of the sensor with water flow), air dry before storage.
Avoid physical damage: Sensor probes are often precision components that need to be protected from collision, compression, or severe vibration. When inserting or removing soil, the movement should be slow and steady to avoid excessive force that may cause deformation of the probe or damage to the electrode.
Corrosion prevention: If the soil in the measurement area contains corrosive substances such as high salt, acid and alkali, the sensor should be rinsed with clean water in a timely manner after use and wiped dry with a dry cloth to avoid long-term adhesion of corrosive substances that may cause electrode oxidation and aging.
2、 Maintenance of the host and circuit system
Moisture and dust prevention: The host should be stored or used in a damp and dusty environment. When not in use, the power should be turned off and placed in a dry and clean packaging box. Desiccant can be placed appropriately to prevent moisture. If there is dust on the surface of the host, it can be wiped with a dry cloth, and should not be cleaned with water or organic solvents.
Power management: For hosts that use batteries, the batteries should be removed when not in use for a long time to prevent battery leakage and corrosion of the circuit. When using an external power supply, it is necessary to ensure that the voltage and current meet the equipment requirements to avoid circuit burnout caused by unsuitable power supply.
Avoid electromagnetic interference: The host should be kept away from strong electromagnetic equipment (such as motors, transformers, high-power radio devices, etc.) to prevent electromagnetic interference from affecting the stability of data acquisition and transmission.
3、 Maintenance of cables
Avoid pulling and abrasion: The cables connecting the sensor and the host should be properly organized to avoid excessive pulling, bending, or being cut by sharp objects. When in use, cables should be kept away from heat sources, oil stains, etc. to prevent insulation layer aging and damage.
Interface maintenance: The interfaces at both ends of the cable should be kept clean and dry. When inserting or unplugging, they should be aligned with the direction to avoid loosening the interfaces or bending the pins due to excessive force. When not in use, the interface protective cover can be worn to prevent dust and debris from entering.
4、 Regular calibration and inspection
Calibration: Regularly (e.g. every 3-6 months) calibrate the soil moisture observation instrument according to the frequency of equipment use and accuracy requirements. Standard soil samples or professional calibration equipment can be used to ensure the accuracy of measurement data. The specific calibration method should refer to the equipment manual.
Function check: Regularly turn on the device to check its various functions, such as whether the data display is normal, whether the buttons are sensitive, and whether the data transmission (wired/wireless) is stable. If any abnormalities are found, the manufacturer or professional maintenance personnel should be contacted in a timely manner for handling, and do not disassemble on your own.
5、 Storage and transportation precautions
Storage environment: When stored for a long time, the equipment (including sensors, hosts, cables, etc.) should be placed in a ventilated, dry, and cool room, avoiding direct sunlight, high or low temperature environments (generally recommended storage temperature is -10 ℃~40 ℃, humidity ≤ 85%).
Transportation protection: During transportation, original packaging or shock-absorbing packaging materials should be used to secure the equipment to prevent damage to components caused by bumps. Avoid mixing with flammable, explosive, or corrosive materials during transportation.
