Beijing Hospital is a modern comprehensive hospital with a focus on elderly medical research and centered on cadre healthcare. It is fully open to society and has developed in medicine, education, research, and prevention. It is a tertiary Grade A hospital directly under the National Health and Family Planning Commission and an important central cadre healthcare base.

The predecessor of Beijing Hospital was a German hospital established in 1905. In 1945, the city of Beiping took over the former German hospital and renamed it "Municipal Beiping Hospital". In 1949, the Health Department of the Central Military Commission led medical staff from Yan'an Central Hospital and Norman Bethune Peace Hospital to take over the municipal Beiping Hospital, and renamed it "Beijing Hospital" with the change of Beijing's place name.
