The Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, established in October 1956, is an early national automation research institution in China. In 1968, the Automation Institute was reorganized and incorporated into the Space Technology Research Institute, renamed as the Space Control Technology Research Institute, with the number 502 Research Institute. In 1970, the Chinese Academy of Sciences rebuilt the Institute of Automation to meet the needs of technological development of automation discipline.
