As a precision measuring instrument, the daily maintenance and upkeep of Nikon tool microscopes should revolve around the three core areas of optical system, mechanical structure, and electrical safety. Specific operations should follow the following specifications:
1、 Optical system maintenance: Ensure imaging accuracy
Lens cleaning
Dip a small amount of alcohol mixture (ratio 7:3) into specialized lens paper or degreasing cotton, and spiral wipe the surface of the objective lens and eyepiece from the center outward. For 100X oil immersed objective lenses, residual tar should be immediately removed with xylene after each use to avoid oil film corrosion of the lens coating. If mold spots are found, a cotton swab dipped in a mixture of 70% ethanol and 30% can be used to gently wipe, but the amount of solvent used must be strictly controlled to prevent infiltration into the inside of the lens.
Light source system maintenance
Regularly clean the light source lens and reflector, and gently wipe the surface dust with a dust-free cloth. If the lifespan of the light bulb expires (usually 2000 hours), it is necessary to replace it with a halogen lamp or LED light source of the same model and ensure power-off operation. Avoid direct contact with the bulb glass to prevent local overheating caused by fingerprint grease.
2、 Mechanical structure maintenance: ensuring motion accuracy
Maintenance of stage and guide rail
Wipe the surface of the stage with a dust-free cloth every week to prevent metal debris from scratching the glass surface. The guide rail part needs to be coated with special lubricating oil (such as Mozambique oil) every month, and kept at a constant speed when moving to avoid wear on the screw caused by emergency stop. If oil stains are found on the guide rail, it can be cleaned with an alcohol swab, but avoid the optical encoder.
Inspection of focusing mechanism
Before daily use, check the smoothness of the coarse/fine adjustment knob. If there is any jamming, you can add 1-2 drops of clock oil to the bearing. Do not forcefully rotate the knob to prevent gear disengagement or screw deformation.
3、 Electrical Safety and Storage Environment
Moisture-proof and dust-proof
The microscope should be stored in an environment with a relative humidity of less than 60% to avoid mold growth on the optical components. When it is idle for a long time, a dust cover should be used to cover it, and a desiccant (such as silicone particles) should be placed in the storage cabinet. The color change of the desiccant should be checked monthly, and expired products should be replaced in a timely manner.
Grounding and earthquake resistance
Ensure that the microscope host is well grounded to prevent static electricity from damaging the circuit board. During transportation, both hands should be used to support the mirror arm and base to avoid tilting the optical tube due to lifting with one hand. The workbench should be stable and kept away from vibration sources such as punch presses and air compressors.
4、 Regular calibration and professional maintenance
Calibrate the measurement system quarterly using standard measuring blocks (such as 1mm, 10mm), record the error values, and adjust the compensation parameters. Contact Nikon authorized service centers annually for in-depth maintenance, including optical axis calibration, circuit board dust removal, and mechanical component wear testing, to ensure that the instrument meets ISO10360-2 measurement accuracy standards.
