Rapid cooling strategy for laboratory freezer
Date: 2025-10-31Read: 2
Laboratory freezerIn scenarios such as rapid freezing of samples and low-temperature storage of reagents, rapid cooling is often required to ensure material activity and experimental efficiency. The core strategy should revolve around three principles: "reducing heat load", "optimizing refrigeration efficiency", and "avoiding safety risks", taking into account both cooling speed and equipment stability.
Pre cooling preparation and environmental control are the foundation for rapid cooling. Before starting the cooling process, it is necessary to ensure that there are no heat sources around the refrigerator (such as staying away from ventilation openings, ovens, and other equipment), and clean the dust on the heat dissipation grille to avoid obstruction of heat dissipation and a decrease in cooling efficiency. If the refrigerator has not been used for a long time or has just stopped, the "strong cooling mode" can be activated 1-2 hours in advance (some devices include this function) to allow the evaporator to cool down in advance and reduce subsequent cooling resistance. Simultaneously turn off the high-temperature lighting equipment in the laboratory, maintain the ambient temperature at 20-25 ℃, and prevent environmental heat from entering the interior through the enclosure.
Load management and reasonable placement directly affect the cooling rate. It is recommended to avoid putting a large amount of room temperature materials at once. It is suggested to put the items to be frozen in batches, with each batch volume not exceeding one-third of the total capacity of the refrigerator, to prevent sudden increase in heat load and stagnation of cooling. For small items such as centrifuge tubes and reagent bottles, they can be pre cooled in a -20 ℃ freezer for 30 minutes before being transferredLaboratory freezerLarge samples (such as culture dishes and centrifuge tube racks) should be placed in a dispersed manner, with a gap of 5-10cm reserved to ensure smooth circulation of cold air inside the box and avoid excessive local temperature.
Equipment operation and parameter optimization need to be scientifically adjusted. After starting the cooling process, lower the set temperature by 5-8 ℃ (temporarily set to -33 ℃ when the target is -25 ℃), and use the temperature difference to accelerate heat exchange. However, it is important to note that the target temperature should be adjusted back in a timely manner after the cooling is completed to avoid long-term ultra-low temperature operation that may damage the compressor. If the refrigerator contains a "quick freezing zone" (usually located near the evaporator), emergency samples can be prioritized in this area, where the temperature can be 3-5 ℃ lower than other areas and the cooling efficiency can be increased by more than 20%.
Security and maintenance standards are the guarantee for the implementation of strategies. During the cooling process, the temperature should be recorded every 30 minutes. If the temperature drops by less than 5 ℃ within 1 hour, it is necessary to check whether the door seal is sealed (a piece of paper can be clamped at the door seal, and if there is obvious resistance when pulled, the seal is good), and whether there is frequent opening of the door. In addition, it is prohibited to directly put volatile reagents (such as C ₂ H ₅ OC ₂ H ₅, acetone) intoLaboratory freezerIt needs to be sealed before storage to prevent the evaporation of reagents from causing an increase in internal pressure in the refrigerator, which may affect the safety of the refrigeration system.
