Liebherr Laboratory Freezer Sample Storage Techniques
Date: 2025-12-09Read: 2
Liebherr laboratory freezerWith its precise temperature control performance, stable operating state, and good insulation effect, it has become the core equipment for low-temperature storage of biological samples, chemical reagents, experimental consumables, and other materials. The storage quality of samples directly affects the reliability of experimental results. Based on the characteristics of the equipment, practical storage techniques are shared below from the aspects of sample pretreatment, storage planning, and operating standards to ensure sample activity and stability.
1、 Core preprocessing techniques before sample storage
Preprocessing is the foundation for ensuring the quality of sample storage, and it is necessary to standardize the operation based on the sample type and the refrigeration characteristics of Liebherr refrigerators to avoid sample damage or affecting equipment operation
1. Sample classification and packaging: isolate contamination+adapt to refrigeration
Classification LabelingClassify the samples according to their type (such as cell lines, tissue samples, serum, chemical reagents), storage period (short-term, long-term), and experimental items. Use waterproof and low-temperature resistant labels to clearly label the sample name, number, concentration, preparation date, storage conditions, and responsible person. It is recommended to use specialized frozen labels or mark them directly on the plastic centrifuge tube wall with a marker pen to avoid label detachment or blurry handwriting at low temperatures.
sealed packagingLiquid samples should be stored in low-temperature containers with screw caps (such as polypropylene centrifuge tubes and serum bottles), ensuring that the caps are tightened to prevent sample leakage, contamination of the refrigerator interior, or cross contamination; Solid samples (such as tissue blocks, freeze-dried samples) need to be sealed in bags or specialized sample boxes, and if necessary, wrapped in wax film to enhance sealing; Volatile or corrosive chemical reagents should be packaged separately in double-layer sealed containers to avoid corroding the refrigerator liner or affecting other samples.
Pre cooling adaptationFor high-temperature samples that require long-term storage (such as freshly prepared cell suspensions and fresh tissues), they cannot be directly placed in the low-temperature zone of the Liebherr freezer (such as the -80 ℃ ultra-low temperature model). They need to be pre cooled in the 4 ℃ freezer for 30 minutes, then transferred to the -20 ℃ zone for a gradient cooling of 1-2 hours, and finally moved to the target low-temperature zone to avoid ice crystal damage to the activity of the sample due to sudden temperature drops, and to prevent the refrigerator from affecting temperature stability due to excessive instantaneous load.
2. Sample size and container selection: Suitable space+Ensure refrigeration efficiency
Based on the internal volume and shelf load-bearing design of Liebherr laboratory freezer, select sample containers and control single storage capacity reasonably:
The container specifications should be adapted to the spacing between the refrigerator shelves and the size of the drawers, to avoid the shelves being unable to close or drawers being stuck due to the container being too high or too wide, which may affect the sealing and insulation effect; It is recommended to prioritize using standardized containers for easy stacking and space saving.
The amount of samples placed in a single batch should not exceed one-third of the effective capacity of the refrigerator. Although Liebherr refrigerators have a strong cooling rate, placing a large number of hot samples at the same time can cause drastic temperature fluctuations inside the box. It is necessary to control the frequency of placement, with an interval of more than 30 minutes between each time, and wait until the temperature returns to the set value before placing the next batch of samples.
2、 Internal Storage Planning and Zoning Techniques for Refrigerators
Liebherr laboratory refrigerators typically have multiple shelves, drawers, and dedicated storage boxes. Scientific partitioning can improve storage efficiency, reduce cross contamination, and facilitate sample retrieval
1. Partition according to temperature gradient: adapt to different sample requirements
If it is a multi temperature zone model (such as a composite refrigerator with -20 ℃, -40 ℃, -80 ℃), it is necessary to accurately zone according to the sample storage temperature requirements:
-20 ℃ zone: For short-term storage (1-3 months) of ordinary reagents, prepared buffer solutions, freeze-dried samples, etc., it is recommended to place them in the middle shelf of the refrigerator, where temperature fluctuations are small.
-40 ℃ to -60 ℃ zone: Used for mid-term storage (3-6 months) of cell lines, serum, tissue homogenates, and other samples with moderate temperature sensitivity. They can be placed in drawer style storage compartments to reduce temperature impact during retrieval.
-80 ℃ ultra-low temperature zone: Used for long-term storage (more than 6 months) of precious cell lines, primary tissues, genetic engineering samples, etc., they need to be placed in a dedicated ultra-low temperature freezer and then placed in the inner or bottom area of the refrigerator, where the temperature is most stable and least affected by opening the door.
2. Partition by sample attributes: avoid cross contamination
Even within the same temperature range, it is necessary to further partition according to the sample properties and optimize the layout by combining the partitioning design of Liebherr refrigerators
Establish a "dedicated area": separate biological samples (such as human tissue and animal samples) from chemical reagents for storage. It is recommended to place biological samples in separate drawers and chemical reagents on the other side of the shelf, separated by a partition in the middle; Infectious samples should be placed separately in a sealed biosafety storage box and placed in the lower layer of the refrigerator to prevent leakage and spread.
Establish a "temporary area": Set up a temporary storage area on the refrigerator door shelf or near the door shelf to store samples that have been frequently accessed recently, reducing temperature fluctuations caused by frequent opening of the refrigerator inner layer for sample retrieval; Long term storage samples are concentrated in the inner layer of the refrigerator to enhance insulation effect.
Set up a "pending area": separate small areas to place samples to be tested, packaged, or discarded, to avoid confusion with qualified stored samples, and must be processed within 24 hours.
3、 Storage operation skills based on device characteristics
By combining the temperature control advantages, structural design, and functional features of Liebherr laboratory refrigerators, optimizing storage operations can further enhance sample safety
1. Temperature management: precise adaptation+avoiding fluctuations
Accurate temperature setting: Set the target temperature according to the sample requirements. Liebherr refrigerators support precise temperature control at the 0.1 ℃ level. For sensitive samples such as embryos and stem cells, the temperature can be set within a range 2-3 ℃ lower than theoretical requirements, leaving room for temperature fluctuations; Regularly check the temperature data on the refrigerator display screen, record the temperature change curve, and if there are fluctuations above ± 2 ℃, contact after-sales maintenance in a timely manner.
Reduce the frequency of opening doors: The vacuum insulation layer of Liebherr refrigerators can effectively reduce the loss of cooling capacity, but frequent opening of doors can still cause temperature fluctuations. When taking and placing samples, it is necessary to plan in advance and take and place the required samples at once. The opening time should be controlled within 30 seconds; When picking up and placing deep samples, avoid opening the drawer for a long time or flipping other samples. You can use specialized sample picking tools for quick operation.
Dealing with power outages: In the event of a brief power outage (within 1 hour), do not open the refrigerator door. The insulation performance of Liebherr refrigerators can maintain stable temperature inside the box; If the power outage lasts for more than 2 hours, the precious samples need to be transferred to a backup freezer. If transfer is not possible, sufficient dry ice can be placed in the freezer to maintain a low temperature environment.
2. Space and humidity control: ensuring the safety of equipment and samples
Reserved heat dissipation space: Sample placement should follow the principle of "tight top and loose bottom, sparse left and dense right". The samples on the shelf should be kept 5-10cm away from the inner wall, top and back of the refrigerator, and the samples in the drawer should not exceed 80% of the drawer volume to ensure smooth cooling circulation and avoid local temperature unevenness.
Control condensation water: For samples with high moisture content (such as fresh tissues and wet consumables), they need to be sealed before being placed in the refrigerator to avoid the evaporation of moisture and the formation of condensation water. Condensation water adhering to the evaporator can affect refrigeration efficiency and may also drip onto the sample, causing pollution; Regularly clean the condensate drain tray in the refrigerator. Some Liebherr models have automatic defrosting function, which can be turned on according to the instructions to reduce manual cleaning frequency.
4、 Management and maintenance skills after sample storage
1. Regular inventory and cleaning: avoid sample failure
Establish a system of "weekly small inventory and monthly large inventory", combined with the zoning record of Liebherr refrigerators, to promptly clean up expired, deteriorated, or mislabeled samples; For samples stored for a long time, the packaging sealing should be checked every 3 months. If any damage or leakage is found in the container, the sample should be immediately transferred to a new container and the contaminated area should be cleaned with a specialized disinfectant.
2. Cross contamination prevention and control: dual protection of equipment and samples
Wipe the shelves, drawer walls, and door handles of the Liebherr refrigerator with 75% medical grade alcohol every month. The inner container of the Liebherr refrigerator is made of corrosion-resistant materials and can be directly wiped and disinfected with alcohol; If a sample leakage occurs, immediately turn off the refrigerator power (if the leakage is large), use absorbent paper to absorb the leaked material, then wipe and disinfect with a chlorine containing disinfectant (such as 84 disinfectant diluent), ventilate for 30 minutes, and then restart the refrigerator.
3. Equipment maintenance linkage: escorting storage
The storage effect of samples is directly related to the performance of the refrigerator, and regular maintenance of the equipment is required: clean the dust on the surface of the refrigerator condenser every week to ensure good heat dissipation; Check the sealing of the refrigerator door seal every six months. If aging or deformation of the door seal is found, contact the manufacturer promptly for replacement to avoid loss of cooling capacity; Every year, professional personnel are required to calibrate and maintain the temperature control system and refrigeration compressor of the refrigerator to ensure that the equipment is in optimal operating condition.

By using the above techniques, one can fully utilize themLiebherr laboratory freezerThe performance advantage ensures maximum stability and activity of the sample. In practical operation, it is necessary to flexibly adjust based on the characteristics of specific samples and refrigerator models (such as ultra-low temperature, low-temperature refrigeration and freezing integrated, etc.), and establish a sound sample storage management system to ensure the standardization and reliability of experimental work.
