The fully automatic Vickers hardness tester is a precision instrument used to measure the hardness of materials. The following are its general usage methods:
preparation
1. Check the instrument: Ensure that the appearance of the hardness tester is not damaged, all components are connected properly, the power plug is plugged in, and the display screen and operation panel are normal.
2. Choose indenter and load: Based on the properties and hardness range of the tested material, refer to the instruction manual of the Vickers hardness tester to select the appropriate diamond indenter and test load. Generally speaking, materials with higher hardness require larger loads and smaller indenters, while materials with lower hardness require the opposite.
3. Install the indenter: Carefully install the selected indenter onto the spindle of the hardness tester, ensuring a secure installation and avoiding shaking during the testing process.
4. Prepare the sample: The surface of the sample should be flat and smooth, without defects such as oxide skin, oil stains, burrs, etc. The thickness of the specimen should not be less than 10 times the diagonal length of the indentation to ensure the accuracy of the test results. For irregularly shaped specimens, suitable fixtures need to be used for fixation.
operating steps
1. Power on preheating: Turn on the power switch of the hardness tester and preheat for a period of time (usually 10-15 minutes) to make the instrument reach a stable working state.
2. Input parameters: Enter the required parameters for testing through the operation panel, such as test load, holding time, etc. The holding time is generally set according to the characteristics of the material and the testing requirements, usually 10-30 seconds.
3. Place the specimen: Place the prepared specimen steadily on the worktable of the hardness tester, ensuring that the specimen is aligned with the center of the indenter. For samples that require the use of fixtures, the fixtures should be securely installed and the position of the samples adjusted.
4. Start testing: Press the testing button, and the hardness tester will automatically apply the selected test load and unload automatically after the holding time is over. During this process, it is necessary to maintain the stability of the instrument and sample and avoid external interference.
5. Measurement of indentation: After the test is completed, the display screen of the hardness tester will automatically display measurement data such as the diagonal length of the indentation. Some fully automatic Vickers hardness testers also have the function of automatically measuring and calculating hardness values, which can directly read Vickers hardness values. If manual measurement of indentation is required, the measuring microscope or other measuring tools equipped with the hardness tester can be used to measure the length of the two diagonal lines of the indentation, and the hardness value can be calculated according to the Vickers hardness calculation formula.
6. Record data: Record the hardness values and related parameters obtained from the test for subsequent analysis and processing. For samples that require multiple tests, they should be tested at different locations and the results of each test should be recorded.
7. Cleaning and organization: After the test is completed, turn off the power of the hardness tester, remove the sample and indenter, wipe the indenter and workbench with a clean soft cloth, and clean the debris around the instrument. Keep the pressure head properly for future use.
When using a fully automatic Vickers hardness tester, operators should strictly follow the instrument's instructions for use, regularly calibrate and maintain the instrument to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
