TPI Bearing Installation Specification and Operation Guide
Date: 2025-10-25Read: 27
TPI bearingsThe installation specifications and operation guidelines are as follows:
1、 Preparation before installation: Details determine success or failure
environmental control
The installation area should be dry, dust-free, and away from metal debris or dust sources. If the environment is complex, dust prevention measures should be taken (such as clean rooms or local isolation).
The operating table needs to be cleaned to avoid impurities from entering the interior of the bearings.
Tools and Parts Inspection
Tools: Use specialized installation tools (such as sleeves, hydraulic presses, bearing heaters) to avoid direct hammering with a hammer. The tools need to be clean and free of dirt to prevent scratching the bearings.
Parts: Confirm that the dimensions of the shaft and bearing seat meet the requirements of the drawing, and that the surface is free of burrs, protrusions, or rust. The mating surface should be smooth, and the end face should be coated with a small amount of lubricating oil (such as Spindle oil) to reduce friction.
Bearing inspection
New bearings: Check the model and rust proof oil condition. General purpose bearings can directly use rust proof oil, while high-speed or precision bearings need to be cleaned with gasoline and dried.
Old bearings: Check for burrs and cracks on the surface of the ball/roller, and measure whether the radial/axial clearance is within the standard range.
2、 Installation method: precise operation in different scenarios
Cold installation (press in method)
Applicable scenario: Used in conjunction with small bearings with low interference fit.
Operation steps:
Use a soft metal sleeve (such as a copper sleeve) to pad the bearing end face and press it evenly with a press.
The pressing force should be applied to the center of the bearing to avoid tilting. If both the inner and outer rings are pressed at the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the pressure is evenly distributed.
Caution: Do not transmit pressure through rolling elements, otherwise it may damage the raceway.
Hot installation (heating method)
Applicable scenario: Large bearings with large interference fit.
Operation steps:
Heat the bearings evenly in an oil bath (80-100 ℃) or induction heater to avoid local overheating.
After heating, quickly install it onto the shaft to prevent the inner ring from not fitting tightly to the shaft shoulder after cooling.
Temperature control: The heating temperature of open bearings should be ≤ 120 ℃, and bearings with seals should be ≤ 80 ℃ (to prevent seal aging).
Installation of tapered hole bearings
Operation steps:
Push the inner ring onto the conical shaft diameter by locking the nut or hydraulic nut, measure the clearance reduction or axial pushing distance to determine the interference fit.
Large bearings require the use of hydraulic devices to ensure uniform thrust.
Oil injection method
Applicable scenario: Directly installed onto a conical shaft diameter or a tightening sleeve/retraction sleeve.
Principle: High pressure hydraulic oil is injected into the mating surface to form an oil film, reducing friction. Oil holes and oil grooves need to be pre designed on the shaft.
3、 Application standard: Avoid fatal injuries
Selection of force application surface
When pressing the shaft: Apply force to the inner ring end face and do not strike the outer ring.
When pressing into the bearing seat: Apply force to the outer ring end face and do not strike the inner ring.
Principle: The pressure should be vertical and uniform to avoid bearing tilting or raceway damage caused by misalignment.
Operation prohibited
Do not directly strike the bearing end face with a hammer (which may damage the retaining edge).
It is prohibited to transmit pressure through rolling elements (which may damage the raceway and rolling elements).
Do not heat the temperature too high (exceeding the bearing steel phase transition temperature of 727 ℃ will cause the inner hole to expand and fail).
4、 Post installation inspection: Ensure that everything is foolproof
Rotational flexibility
Manually rotate the bearing and check if it rotates smoothly without any obstruction. If there is a rustling sensation, it may be due to excessive shaft tolerance or insufficient roundness.
Clearance measurement
Measure the radial clearance of the bearing using a dial gauge to ensure compliance with design requirements. The clearance of tapered hole bearings needs to be adjusted by axial pushing distance.
protective measures
Immediately seal the bearings after installation to prevent dust from entering.
Bearings with insulation design on the outer ring need to be checked for insulation integrity to avoid shaft voltage breakdown of the oil film.
5、 Special scenario handling
insert bearing with housing
Before fixing the bearing seat bolts, ensure that the outer sleeve can rotate within the seat, and automatically align the position after installing the other end bearing.
When installing the eccentric sleeve, tighten it by hand in the direction of rotation, and then use a small iron rod to strike the countersunk hole for fixation.
high-speed bearing
Select low-noise grease and control the amount of oil added (when the speed is greater than 3000r/min, the amount of oil added should be ≤ 1/3 of the bearing chamber volume).
During the trial operation, gradually increase the speed and monitor the temperature rise and vibration.
6、 Common Errors and Prevention

Error Type consequence preventive measures
Hammer striking directly Damage to the edge and indentation on the raceway Use specialized tools to avoid direct tapping
Apply force through rolling elements Damage to the surface of the raceway and rolling elements Pressure directly acts on the end face of the ring
Heating temperature too high Failure of inner hole expansion Strictly control the heating temperature (≤ 120 ℃)
Insufficient cleaning of the mating surface Impurities mixed in cause abnormal noise and wear Thoroughly clean the mating surface before installation
Excessive refueling volume Rolling element slippage and high temperature rise Control the fuel volume according to the speed (such as 1/2 volume at 1500-3000r/min)
