How to choose a matching hydrogen generator based on instrument requirements?
Date: 2025-10-17Read: 1
The selection of a matching hydrogen generator based on instrument requirements requires a comprehensive evaluation of six core dimensions: purity, flow rate, pressure, safety, maintenance convenience, and applicable scenarios. The specific selection strategy is as follows:
1、 Purity matching: Determine accuracy level according to purpose
Carrier gas scenario: If hydrogen is used as the carrier gas for gas chromatography, a model with a purity of ≥ 99.999% should be selected to ensure stable chromatographic baseline. For example, the PrecisionHydrogenTrack series is filtered through a PSA dryer, producing gas with a purity of up to 99.9999%, specifically designed for carrier gases.
Combustion gas scenario: When using hydrogen gas for a flame ionization detector (FID), the purity requirement can be reduced to 99.9%. Peak's PrecisionHydrogen and PrecisionHydrogenSL series are recommended, which use proton exchange membrane technology for electrolytic hydrogen production at a lower cost.
2、 Flow and pressure: flexible configuration according to instrument requirements
Flow calculation: Calculate the total hydrogen consumption of the instrument, add up the maximum flow demands of each part, and multiply by 1.25~1.5 times to determine the safety margin. For example, when the total demand for the instrument is 100mL/min, it is recommended to choose the model with a maximum output of 200mL/min.
Pressure adaptation: Most gas chromatographs require a pressure below 100psi (approximately 0.69MPa). If the instrument is far from the generator, the pressure drop in the pipeline should be considered, and a model with a wider pressure range (such as adjustable from 0 to 0.6MPa) should be selected.
3、 Security and Maintenance: Prioritize products with comprehensive protection functions
Safety function: Select models with overvoltage protection, leakage detection, automatic shutdown due to liquid shortage, and two-stage pressure control (high-sensitivity photoelectric pressure controller+pressure switch) to prevent instrument damage or safety accidents.
Maintenance convenience: Prioritize models with long maintenance cycles (such as desiccant replacement cycles ≥ 1 year) and simple operation. For example, only deionized water needs to be replenished weekly and the deionization column needs to be replaced annually to protect the PEM electrolysis cell.
4、 Applicable scenarios: Matching laboratory or industrial environment requirements
Laboratory scenario: Choose models with small size, low noise (fans hardly start), and remote monitoring capabilities, suitable for precision equipment such as analytical experiments and chromatographs.
Industrial scenario: Choose models with high flow rates (such as 0~1000mL/min), stable pressure (accuracy<0.001MPa), and continuous operation to meet high load requirements such as catalytic reactions and product processing.
