IKA RCT Basic Heating Magnetic Stirrer Laboratory Usage Guide
Date: 2025-10-31Read: 2
  1、 Product Introduction
The IKA RCT Basic Heating Magnetic Stirrer is a commonly used laboratory equipment that combines heating and magnetic stirring functions. It can simultaneously heat and stir liquids and is widely used in solution mixing, reaction experiments, and other fields such as chemistry, biology, and pharmaceuticals. Its operation is simple, heating is uniform, stirring is stable, and it can meet various conventional experimental needs.
  2、 Preparation before use
 (1) Equipment inspection
Check the appearance of the mixer for any damage, such as cracked casing or damaged display screen.
Check if the surface of the mixing plate is flat and clean, and if there are any foreign objects or scratches. If there are any foreign objects, they need to be cleaned thoroughly.
Check whether the power cord is intact, whether the plug is damaged, and ensure the safety of the power connection.
  (2) Accessories preparation
Select a suitable stirrer according to experimental requirements, and the size and shape of the stirrer should match the stirring plate and container. Generally, the diameter of the stirrer should not exceed 2/3 of the diameter of the stirring plate.
Prepare the necessary containers for the experiment, such as beakers, triangular flasks, etc. The containers should be placed in the center of the mixing plate to ensure uniform mixing effect.
  (3) Environmental requirements
Place the mixer on a stable, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant workbench, avoiding use in damp, flammable, and explosive environments.
Ensure there is sufficient space around the workbench for operation and heat dissipation, and there should be no clutter piled up around it.

  3、 Operation steps
  (1) Startup and parameter settings
Connect the power supply, turn on the power switch of the mixer, and the display screen will light up, showing the current temperature and speed settings.
Speed setting: Set the desired mixing speed through the "speed adjustment" knob or button (different models may have slight differences in operation). Clockwise rotation or pressing the corresponding button can increase the speed, while counterclockwise rotation or pressing the corresponding button can decrease the speed. The speed range generally depends on the device model, usually ranging from several hundred to several thousand revolutions per minute. When setting up, it is necessary to adjust it reasonably according to factors such as the size of the container, the volume and viscosity of the liquid, etc., to avoid liquid splashing or container rupture caused by excessive rotation speed.
Temperature setting: If heating operation is required, press the "Heating" function button (usually with obvious heating markings), and then set the desired heating temperature through the "Temperature Adjustment" knob or button. The temperature regulation range also varies depending on the device, generally reaching several hundred degrees Celsius. When setting the temperature, careful selection should be made based on experimental requirements and factors such as the boiling point of the liquid to prevent overheating, boiling, or potential hazards.
  (2) Place the mixer and container
Place the selected mixer into the prepared container, and then place the container steadily in the center of the mixing plate of the mixer. Ensure that the bottom of the container is in full contact with the stirring plate to ensure good heating and stirring effects.
If the position of the mixer is not centered or stable after placement, gently adjust the position of the mixer so that it can rotate freely on the mixing plate without touching the container wall.
  (3) Start mixing and heating
After setting the speed and temperature parameters, press the "Stir" function button (usually clearly marked), and the mixer will start stirring according to the set speed. At this point, it can be observed that the agitator begins to rotate in the container, driving the liquid to mix.
If heating is required, press the "Heat" function button and the mixer will start heating the liquid inside the container. During the heating process, the display screen will show the current actual temperature in real time, which can be adjusted appropriately based on the difference between the actual temperature and the set temperature.
  (4) Monitoring during the experimental process
During the mixing and heating process, it is necessary to closely observe the experimental phenomena and the operating status of the equipment. Pay attention to whether the stirring effect of the liquid is uniform, and whether there are any abnormal situations such as liquid splashing or container rupture.
At the same time, pay attention to changes in temperature to ensure that the actual temperature is close to or reaches the set temperature. If the temperature fluctuates greatly or cannot reach the set temperature, it may be due to equipment malfunction or unreasonable parameter settings, which need to be checked in a timely manner.
If the speed or temperature needs to be adjusted during the experiment, it can be adjusted according to the above parameter setting method while stirring and heating, but attention should be paid to the smoothness of the operation to avoid significant impact on the experiment.
  4、 Operation after use
  (1) Stop running
After the experiment is completed, press the "Stir" function button to stop stirring. After the stirrer stops rotating, press the "Heat" function button to stop heating.
If the device has a timing function, it will automatically stop running when the scheduled time is reached.
  (2) Remove the container and mixer
After the liquid in the container has cooled to a safe temperature (to avoid burns), carefully remove the container from the mixing plate.
Use appropriate tools (such as tweezers) to remove the stirrer from the container. If the agitator is stuck at the bottom of the container and difficult to remove, do not pull it hard. Instead, heat the container slightly or shake it gently to loosen the agitator before removing it.
  (3) Equipment cleaning and maintenance
Wipe the mixing plate and housing of the mixer with a clean damp cloth to remove liquid residue and stains. But it is necessary to avoid water splashing into the interior of the equipment to prevent damage to electrical components.
Regularly check the wear of the mixing disc. If scratches or severe wear are found on the surface of the mixing disc, it may affect the rotation and mixing effect of the mixer. The manufacturer should be contacted in a timely manner for replacement.
When the device is not in use for a long time, the power plug should be unplugged and the device should be stored in a dry and ventilated place.
  5、 Precautions
The selection of agitator and container should be appropriate to avoid uneven mixing or container rupture caused by the agitator being too large or the container being too small.
During the heating process, appropriate protective gloves should be used to avoid burns. At the same time, do not allow flammable or explosive materials to come near the heating area.
Do not place heavy or oversized items on the mixer to avoid affecting the stability and normal operation of the equipment.
If the equipment produces abnormal sounds, odors, or malfunctions during operation, it should be immediately stopped and professional maintenance personnel should be contacted for repair. Do not disassemble the equipment by yourself.
Operate according to the equipment manual and laboratory safety regulations to ensure the safety of the experimental process.
