Strive for a sustainable future

Industrial physics is well aware that providing sustainable solutions for our customers is crucial. We are passionate about utilizing our expertise to provide innovative solutions - helping manufacturers strive for sustainable development while ensuring the integrity of their brands and products.

That's why we're partnering with Aquapak in the UK, which has cutting-edge polymer technology that provides powerful functionality, recyclability, and environmental certifications.

The technical team of industrial physics has been working together to develop Aquapak's Hydrool ™ Biodegradable polymers provide a special testing method suitable for WVTR (water vapor transmission rate).

What is Hydrool ™?

Hydrool has most of the advantages of traditional polymer plastics. Moreover, it has many advantages, including being water-soluble, biodegradable, non-toxic, and UV resistant. It also offers multiple disposal options, such as recyclability, compostability, and compatibility with anaerobic digestion equipment.

However, due to the complexity of this material, establishing a reliable and reproducible WVTR water vapor transmission rate testing method is a significant challenge. The technical team of Industrial Physics brainstormed and provided Aquapak customers in various industries with a true alternative to traditional polymers, helping them reduce plastic pollution in their processes.

Experiments conducted in industrial physics

The WVTR water vapor transmission rate testing method is a known challenge for hydrophilic polymers, and the Aquapak team hopes to utilize our knowledge and resources to develop a testing method that can be conducted in an internal laboratory or at the customer's site.

Aquapak's Quality Control Manager Max Phippard shared his views on the project,

Allowing the WVTR water vapor transmission rate test to reach equilibrium means we are confident in the results. In the past few months, we have conducted a comprehensive analysis of multi-layer samples to understand how our clients replicate their own WVTR water vapor transmission rate testing system on Hydrool. Establishing a relationship with industrial physics and utilizing their expertise in packaging barrier properties is crucial for the success of this program. ”

What is the next step?

Alan Shema, Product Director of Systech Illinois under Industrial Physics, discussed the future prospects when developing solutions for this testing method,

By using Aquapak and the methods we have adopted, we have reached the point where we can replicate Hydrool's WVTR water vapor permeability test anywhere in the world. This is an important step forward as it will affect the testing methods for hydrophilic films in the future. It enables our global customers who purchase sustainable packaging materials such as Hydrol to conduct their own WVTR water vapor transmission rate tests because they know the results are trustworthy. ”

Investing in a sustainable future.

This is just one of the efforts made by the industrial physics team for sustainable development. But in order to provide testing and detection solutions that can have a real impact, we believe that understanding the actual situation is very important. That's why earlier this year, we conducted a survey of over 250 packaging decision-makers from various industries to understand how sustainable packaging innovation affects quality control. These responses reveal insights into testing challenges, supply chain issues, feasibility of international testing methods, material performance, and other aspects.
