Atmosphere high vacuum tube furnace: a precision high-temperature processing platform for materials science
Date: 2025-10-23Read: 0

In the field of modern materials science and new energy research and development, high-temperature treatment equipment that precisely controls temperature and atmosphere has become the core equipment to promote technological innovation, and the atmosphere high vacuum tube furnace is an outstanding representative in this field. Atmosphere high vacuum tube furnace is a precision heat treatment equipment that integrates high temperature, vacuum, and atmosphere control. It provides a highly pure and controllable thermal processing environment for material processing by reducing the pressure level inside the furnace (usually 10 ⁻³ Pa to 10 ⁻⁵ Pa), creating a low-pressure environment close to oxygen free, and then introducing specific gases. This device has been widely used in the research and production processes of universities, research institutes, and advanced manufacturing enterprises, becoming a technology platform in fields such as material synthesis, semiconductor technology, and new energy development.

1、 Working principle and system composition

The core working principle of the atmosphere high vacuum tube furnace is based on the collaborative work of three technical modules: vacuum environment establishment, precise heating and temperature control, and atmosphere control. Its workflow begins with the start-up of the vacuum system. By combining a mechanical pump with a molecular pump, the air inside the furnace is extracted to create a high vacuum environment. This process effectively eliminates impurities such as oxygen and water vapor, providing a pure foundation for material processing.

Subsequently, the heating system began to operate. Heating elements such as resistance wires, silicon carbon rods, or silicon molybdenum rods are used to convert electrical energy into thermal energy and heat the materials inside the furnace tube through radiation. The temperature control system of modern tube furnaces adopts PID control algorithm, combined with high-precision thermocouples, which can achieve temperature accuracy of ± 1 ℃.

Finally, according to the process requirements, the introduction of inert or reactive gases is precisely controlled through a mass flow meter to create a specific atmospheric environment. This working mode of "first vacuum, then atmosphere" not only avoids material oxidation, but also meets the requirements of complex chemical reactions.

2、 Key technological advantages

The core advantages of atmospheric high vacuum tube furnaces are reflected in three aspects: precise temperature control, flexible atmosphere regulation, and stable vacuum performance.

In terms of temperature control, the advanced tube furnace adopts 30 segment programmable PID self-tuning technology, supporting automatic heating and cooling, and the temperature control accuracy can reach ± 1 ℃. This precise temperature control capability is crucial for temperature sensitive processes such as semiconductor material growth and catalyst preparation. Regarding atmosphere control, the equipment supports various gas environments, including inert gases (such as argon and nitrogen), reducing gases (such as hydrogen), and reactive gases (such as oxygen and methane). Through the mass flow controller, the gas flow control accuracy can reach ± 1%, meeting the special requirements of different materials and processes for atmospheric environment. In terms of vacuum system performance, the combination of molecular pumps and front-end pumps can achieve a high vacuum environment (10 ⁻³ Pa to 10 ⁻⁵ Pa), effectively avoiding material oxidation reactions at high temperatures. For example, in the sintering process of positive electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, a high vacuum environment can prevent cobalt oxidation and increase the product capacity retention rate to 98%.

3、 Main application scenarios

In the field of new energy materials, atmospheric high vacuum tube furnaces play an important role. During the sintering process of positive electrode materials such as LiCoO ₂ in lithium-ion batteries, a vacuum environment can prevent the oxidation of cobalt elements, while introducing an oxygen atmosphere promotes uniform mixing of lithium and cobalt, significantly improving the cycling stability of the material.

In the field of semiconductor manufacturing, this equipment is used for MOCVD growth of materials such as gallium nitride (GaN). By precisely controlling the ammonia flow rate and reaction chamber pressure, high-quality films with dislocation densities below 10 ⁸ cm ⁻ ² can be prepared, with a growth rate 40% higher than traditional equipment.

In aerospace material processing, vacuum tube furnace is used for vacuum annealing process of key parts such as TC4 titanium alloy. By precisely controlling the hydrogen flow rate and insulation time, the residual stress of the parts can be reduced to below 50 MPa, and the fatigue life can be increased by three times.

In terms of nanomaterial synthesis, the equipment can achieve vacuum thermal reduction preparation of single-layer graphene (purity>99.5%) through H ₂/N ₂ mixed atmosphere and high temperature environment under a vacuum degree of 10 ⁻ Pa to 10 ⁻ ³ Pa, providing strong support for the research and development of new materials.

4、 Key parameters for equipment selection

Choosing a suitable atmosphere high vacuum tube furnace requires comprehensive consideration of multiple parameters such as vacuum degree, temperature range, atmosphere compatibility, and safety performance.

Vacuum degree is the primary consideration factor. According to application requirements, different pump combinations can be selected: low vacuum (1000-100 Pa) is suitable for simple processes such as drying and degassing; Medium vacuum (100-0.1 Pa) is suitable for metal annealing and ceramic pre firing; High vacuum (0.1-10 ⁻³ Pa) is suitable for precision processing such as high-temperature synthesis and semiconductor technology.

The temperature range needs to match the material and process requirements. According to the material of the furnace tube, the upper limit of the operating temperature varies: quartz tube ≤ 1100 ℃, corundum tube can reach 1600 ℃. The selection of heating elements also affects temperature performance: silicon molybdenum rods are suitable for high temperatures of 1800 ℃, silicon carbon rods are suitable for temperatures of 1400 ℃, and resistance wires are suitable for scenarios below 1200 ℃.

Security performance cannot be ignored. High quality equipment should have multiple safety mechanisms such as over temperature protection, leakage protection, and thermocouple fracture alarm to ensure safe operation. The double-layer air-cooled structure design can keep the surface temperature of the furnace body ≤ 45 ℃, effectively preventing burns.
