Working principle of femtosecond fiber laser
Date: 2025-11-26Read: 1
Femto-second Fiber LaserIt is a laser device based on fiber structure that can generate femtosecond level ultra short pulses. It combines the stability of fiber lasers with the ultrafast characteristics of femtosecond lasers, and has shown important application value in scientific research, industry, and other fields.
Femto-second Fiber LaserThe working principle of the laser is a link that generates, amplifies, and compresses pulses, relying on optical fibers as gain media and transmission carriers, avoiding the optical path offset problem of traditional solid-state lasers
Pulse generation: Ultra short pulses are generated in the seed source through mode locking technology. The commonly used mode locking method is passive mode locking of semiconductor saturable absorption mirrors, which does not require complex active control components and has higher stability.
Pulse amplification: Seed pulses enter the doped fiber gain medium, and energy is injected through a pump source to invert the number of particles in the gain medium, achieving pulse energy amplification. Simultaneously utilizing the nonlinear effects of optical fibers to avoid pulse distortion during amplification.
Pulse compression: The amplified pulse will be broadened due to dispersion effects, and the pulse width needs to be compressed through a dispersion compensation module before outputting femtosecond level ultra short pulses.
Advantage:
Good stability: Fiber optic, as a transmission and gain medium, has strong resistance to vibration and environmental interference. The optical path does not require frequent calibration, and the MTBF can reach tens of thousands of hours.
Compact size: No need for the bulky optical components of traditional solid-state lasers, modular structure, can be integrated into small devices or mobile platforms, saving space.
Excellent thermal management: The high specific surface area of the fiber enables high heat dissipation efficiency, avoiding pulse distortion caused by thermal effects in traditional lasers, and minimizing power fluctuations during long-term operation.
Cost controllable: Compared to femtosecond solid-state lasers, fiber lasers have lower gain medium and pump source costs, are easy to maintain, and are suitable for large-scale promotion.
