The 48th seminar topic: Optimizing Mixing - Better Reaction Techniques

The online seminar will explore the importance of stirring and its impact on reaction rate, product quality, and efficient heat transfer. We will explore the advantages and limitations of magnetic stirring, how to choose a suitable magnetic stirrer, and evaluate the use of a stirrer evaluation kit. Participants will also learn about the advantages of top stirring in small and large volume reactions, particularly in viscous and heterogeneous reactions, and discover the impact of different blade types on mixing. We will share insights on scaling up from the laboratory to production scale, as well as considerations for technology transfer. In addition, we will compare high shear and low shear mixers, radial flow and axial flow impellers, and understand the importance of container geometry and baffles for optimal mixing.
