Application scenarios of protective hot plate method testing
Date: 2025-12-20Read: 0

Dear colleagues, as the standard for testing the thermal conductivity of insulation materials, the protective hot plate method relies on the characteristics of "precise control of one-dimensional heat flow, strong adaptability to low thermal conductivity, and high data compliance". The core application scenarios revolve around the four dimensions of "product quality control, engineering acceptance, scientific research innovation, and standard calibration", and fully comply with the requirements of core standards such as GB/T 10294-2008:

Firstly, the product quality control of insulation material manufacturing enterprises. This is the core application scenario, such as rock wool, glass wool, polyurethane foam, vacuum insulation panel (VIP), aerogel felt and other thermal insulation materials. Before leaving the factory, they must pass the protective hot plate test to verify whether the thermal conductivity meets the product standards (such as GB/T 10801 Molded Polystyrene Foam for Thermal Insulation, and GB/T 26680 Vacuum Thermal Insulation Panel). The enterprise controls the stability of the production process through batch testing, avoids exceeding the thermal conductivity due to issues such as raw material ratio and foam density, and ensures that the products are qualified for delivery.

Secondly, engineering acceptance in fields such as construction, cold chain, and industry. After the construction of building exterior wall insulation system, cold storage insulation layer, industrial kiln insulation lining and other engineering projects, it is necessary to sample and use the protective hot plate method for testing to confirm that the actual thermal conductivity of the insulation materials used is consistent with the design parameters. For example, in the energy-saving acceptance of buildings, it is necessary to verify whether the thermal conductivity of insulation materials meets the requirements of energy-saving standards (such as GB 50176 "Code for Thermal Design of Civil Buildings"), in order to avoid exceeding energy consumption standards due to substandard material performance; The acceptance of insulation layer for cold chain logistics carriages requires testing to ensure that the thermal conductivity is ≤ 0.03W/(m · K), ensuring the effectiveness of low-temperature storage.

Thirdly, innovation in material research and development by scientific research institutions. When universities and research institutes develop new insulation materials (such as nano insulation materials and composite insulation materials), the protective hot plate method is the core testing method. By accurately measuring the thermal conductivity of materials under different formulations and processes, analyzing the influence of factors such as microstructure, moisture content, and porosity on thermal conductivity, data support is provided for material optimization. For example, when developing ultra-low temperature insulation materials, this method can be used to test the changes in thermal conductivity under different temperature environments (-20 ℃ to 85 ℃), verifying the stability of the material's performance under supercooling or overheating conditions.

Fourthly, in the field of quality inspection institutions and standard calibration. When third-party quality inspection agencies (such as SGS and quality inspection institutes) conduct insulation material testing and certification, they must use the protective hot plate method to issue reliable testing reports as the basis for product qualification judgment and market supervision. At the same time, this method is also the core means of calibrating thermal conductivity standard materials. By testing standard samples with known thermal conductivity (such as standard polystyrene boards), the accuracy of the calibration testing instrument is calibrated to ensure the uniformity and comparability of industry testing data.

In addition, this method is also applicable to fields such as aerospace and electronic appliances that require strict insulation performance, such as thermal protection system materials for spacecraft and thermal conductivity testing of electronic component heat dissipation insulation materials. With its ± 1% testing accuracy, it meets the demand for data accuracy in the field.
