Methane chromatography columns also require daily maintenance

Methane chromatography columnIt is a key component used in gas chromatographs to separate methane (CH4) and other hydrocarbon gases. Its core function is to achieve efficient separation of methane and impurity gases (such as ethane, propane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc.) through the interaction between the fixed phase and the mobile phase, providing clear signals for subsequent detectors (such as FID, TCD) to accurately determine methane purity or concentration.
Methane chromatography columnThe working principle is based on chromatographic separation technology. In a chromatographic column, there are polar functional groups on the surface of fillers (such as adsorbents or molecular sieves) that can interact with functional groups with certain polar bonds in the molecule and allow the analyte to remain in the column through adsorption. For methane, due to its very simple molecular structure and lack of any polar bonds, the interaction between it and the filler is weak, the residence time is short, and it quickly passes through the column bed. Non methane compounds typically have more complex structures, strong adsorption interactions with fillers, and longer residence times. In this way, methane and non methane compounds are separated in the chromatographic column.
  Methane chromatography columnDaily maintenance:
1. Keep clean:
Regularly wipe the chromatography column casing with a clean soft cloth to remove dust and stains.
Use a dust blower or soft bristled brush to clean the dust inside the chromatography column, especially around the injection port and detector.
Avoid using cleaning agents containing corrosive chemicals to prevent damage to the surface of the chromatography column.
2. Check connection:
Regularly check whether the connection between the chromatographic column and the instrument is firm, without looseness or damage.
Ensure good sealing of components such as injection ports and detectors to prevent gas leakage.
3. Control temperature and pressure:
Ensure that the chromatographic column operates within an appropriate temperature range and avoid damage to the column caused by excessively high or low temperatures.
Monitor the working pressure of the chromatography column to ensure it is within the normal range and avoid damage to the column caused by excessive pressure.
4. Regular calibration:
Regularly calibrate the chromatographic column according to the instructions to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.
Use standard gas for calibration and follow the correct calibration procedure.
Record the calibration date and results for future reference.
