Maintenance checklist for gluten analyzer
Date: 2025-07-10Read: 0
  Gluten Testing SystemIt is the core equipment for flour quality testing, providing key quality data for industries such as baking and food processing by accurately separating and measuring gluten content. If not maintained properly, problems such as unstable water flow, weighing deviation, and mechanical jamming may occur, affecting detection accuracy and shortening equipment life. Here are five dimensions of daily cleaning, regular calibration, mechanical lubrication, replacement of vulnerable parts, and storage management to share practical maintenance tips, helping you reduce failure rates and extend instrument lifespan.
1、 Daily cleaning: prevent residual blockage and ensure stable water flow
Background of the problem:
Starch and protein residues in flour are prone to deposit in washing rooms, mixing shafts, and other areas, leading to:
Blockage of water flow channel: Decreased washing water flow rate, incomplete separation of gluten;
Bacterial growth: residues decay and produce odors, contaminating subsequent samples.
Operation steps:
Cleaning of washing room:
After the experiment is completed, immediately use a soft bristled brush (such as a horsehair brush) to remove any residue from the walls of the washing chamber and the spiral stirring shaft, avoiding scratches caused by the use of hard tools.
Pour in 500mL of warm water, start the instrument and rinse at the lowest flow rate (such as 0.5L/min) for 1 minute to remove any residue.
For high fiber samples (such as whole wheat flour), rinse and wipe the washing room with food grade alcohol (75% concentration), disinfect and accelerate drying.
Drainage system inspection:
Clean the filter screen at the drainage pipe outlet to prevent starch particles from blocking the pipeline.
Blow the inside of the drainage pipe with compressed air (pressure ≤ 0.2MPa) every month to ensure smooth drainage.
Effect verification:
After cleaning, test with standard gluten blocks (such as gluten powder with a moisture content of 12%), and the washing time should be consistent with the nominal value of the instrument (such as 5 minutes), with a deviation of ≤± 10%.
2、 Weekly calibration: Ensure weighing and water flow accuracy, improve data reliability
Background of the problem:
Deviation in the weighing module or unstable water flow rate can lead to:
Measurement error of wet gluten content: if the actual content is 30%, but the instrument displays 28%;
Gluten index calculation error: affecting flour grading and processing technology adjustment.
Calibration items and operations:
Calibration of weighing module:
Use standard weights (such as 10g, 50g) for two-point calibration:
Place the weight at the center of the weighing plate and record the displayed value;
If the deviation is greater than 0.01g, enter the calibration mode through the instrument menu and enter the standard value to complete the correction.
Attention: Before calibration, ensure that the weighing plate is free of dust and that the instrument has been preheated for 30 minutes (reaching a stable state).
Water flow velocity calibration:
Measure the actual flow rate with a graduated cylinder and stopwatch:
Start the washing program and collect the drainage volume within 1 minute;
If the flow rate deviates from the nominal value (such as 1.5L/min) by more than 5%, adjust the instrument's water flow control valve or contact the manufacturer to adjust the water pump pressure.
Alternative solution: Some high-end instruments support automatic calibration (such as through built-in flow meters), which can be operated according to the instructions.
Calibration cycle recommendation:

Component Name replacement cycle Selection suggestions
O-ring 3 months Choose materials that are resistant to saltwater corrosion (such as fluororubber)
Inlet filter screen 3 months Aperture ≤ 0.5mm to prevent starch particles from entering the water pump
Mixing blade 6 months Check the wear amount, if the gap is greater than 1mm, replace it
drain pipe 1 year Choose a transparent hose for easy observation of blockages

High frequency use (>10 times a day): calibrated once a week;
Low frequency use (<5 times per day): Calibrate once every 2 weeks.
3、 Monthly lubrication: reduce mechanical wear and ensure smooth operation of the mixing shaft
Background of the problem:
Long term operation of the spiral mixing shaft is prone to friction, which can cause:
Operation lag: uneven separation of gluten, affecting the repeatability of testing;
Increased noise: indicates bearing or sealing ring wear and needs to be dealt with in a timely manner.
Lubrication operation:
Lubricant selection:
Use food grade lubricating grease (such as NSF H1 certified silicone grease) to avoid contamination of samples with ordinary lubricating oil.
Recommended brands: Kl ü ber, Dow Corning, etc.
Lubrication steps:
Disconnect the power supply, remove the upper cover of the washing room, and expose the top bearing of the mixing shaft;
Dip a clean cotton swab into a small amount of lubricating grease (about 0.1g) and evenly apply it to the bearing ball and track;
Manually rotate the mixing shaft 5-10 turns to allow the lubricating grease to fully penetrate;
Reinstall the cover, start the instrument and run it idle for 1 minute to drain excess lubricating grease.
Taboos:
Excessive lubricating grease can cause dripping and contamination of the washing room, and the amount should be strictly controlled;
Avoid lubricating grease from contacting electronic components such as sensors and circuit boards to prevent short circuits.
4、 Quarterly replacement: vulnerable parts are regularly updated to prevent hidden faults
Background of the problem:
The following components are prone to performance degradation due to aging or wear:
Sealing ring: Leakage of cleaning solution after cracking, corroding the circuit board;
Filter: Unstable water flow after blockage, affecting separation efficiency;
Stirring blade: After wear, the gap between the blade and the washing chamber wall increases, resulting in gluten residue.
Replacement List and Cycle:
Turn off the water and power sources, and discharge the residual liquid in the washing room; Example of replacement process (taking sealing ring as an example):
Use an Allen wrench to remove the fixing screws of the washing room and remove the upper cover;
Gently pry up the old sealing ring with a plastic pry bar to avoid scratching the metal surface;
Clean the sealing groove, apply a small amount of silicone grease, and install a new sealing ring;
Reinstall the cover in its original position, tighten the screws, and test for water leakage.
5、 Long term storage management: moisture and dust prevention, extending the lifespan of idle equipment
Applicable scenarios:
When the instrument needs to be idle for a long time (such as>1 month), the following measures should be taken to prevent performance degradation:
Storage points:
Thoroughly clean:
Implement daily cleaning procedures to ensure no residue is left;
Blow the interior of the instrument (especially the circuit board and sensor area) with dry compressed air.
Moisture proof treatment:
Place the instrument in a dry environment (relative humidity<60%) to prevent electronic components from getting damp and short circuiting;
Place desiccant packs (such as silicone particles) in the washing room and weighing tray, and replace them every 2 months.
Dust cover:
Cover the instrument with a dust cover (such as non-woven fabric material) to prevent dust from entering the mixing shaft and water flow channel.
Regular power on:
Start the instrument and run it idle for 10 minutes every 2 weeks to maintain mechanical component lubrication and electronic component activity.
Summary: The core logic of maintenance and upkeep
Through the five step system maintenance of "daily cleaning to prevent blockages → weekly calibration to ensure accuracy → monthly lubrication to reduce wear → quarterly replacement to eliminate hidden dangers → long-term storage to prevent degradation", significant reductions can be achievedGluten Testing SystemThe failure rate (measured data: annual failure rate of well maintained equipment<2%, annual failure rate of unmaintained equipment>15%), while extending the service life by 3-5 years. It is recommended that the laboratory develop a "Gluten Tester Maintenance Record Form" to record the time and content of each operation for easy traceability and management.
