Chlorophyll analyzer is a portable instrument that can quickly and conveniently detect the chlorophyll content in plant leaves. It is widely used in fields such as agriculture, forestry, and botany research. Its core function is to indirectly determine the nutritional status (especially nitrogen level), growth vitality, and stress response of plants through chlorophyll content.
1、 Core principle
Utilizing the absorption characteristics of chlorophyll for specific wavelengths of light: chlorophyll mainly absorbs red light (about 650-660nm) and blue violet light, while absorbing less green light (about 550nm). The instrument emits specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to the leaves, detects the intensity of light that penetrates the leaves, and automatically calculates the chlorophyll content through a built-in algorithm based on the correlation between light absorption and chlorophyll content (usually measured in SPAD values, with higher SPAD values indicating higher chlorophyll content).
2、 Main purpose
Guidance on Fertilization: Chlorophyll content is highly correlated with plant nitrogen requirements. By measuring SPAD values, it is possible to determine whether crops are nitrogen deficient, avoiding blind fertilization and achieving precise topdressing.
Plant growth monitoring: Track changes in leaf chlorophyll under different growth stages and environments (such as light, drought, pests and diseases) to evaluate plant growth status.
Scientific research experiment: used for plant physiology and ecology research, analyzing the effects of environmental stress (such as heavy metals, salt alkali) on plant photosynthetic capacity.
3、 Core Features
Portable and fast: small in size, light in weight, easy to operate by hand, single measurement only takes a few seconds, no need to pick leaves (non-destructive testing).
Easy to operate: No complex preprocessing is required (such as traditional chemical methods of grinding and extraction), just clip the blade into the detection port and read the data with just one click.
Data visualization: Directly display SPAD value or chlorophyll concentration (mg/g), some models support data storage and export (such as connecting to a computer).
4、 Precautions for use
When measuring, select the "functional leaves" of the leaves (such as the inverted 3-4 leaves of crops), avoid leaf veins, disease spots, insect bites or aging parts, and ensure data representativeness.
The same leaf can be measured multiple times (e.g. 3-5 times) and the average value can be taken to reduce errors.
The instrument needs to be calibrated regularly with a standard plate to avoid detection deviations caused by long-term use.
Avoid measuring under direct sunlight to prevent environmental light from interfering with light signal detection.
