Avoiding common problems with Shanghai metallographic grinding and polishing machines: Maintenance tips publicly available
Date: 2025-10-25Read: 2
The Shanghai metallographic grinding and polishing machine is an important equipment in the field of material analysis, and its stability and accuracy directly affect the quality of sample preparation. However, many users often encounter issues such as scratches, deformation, or uneven polishing during use. This article will sort out the common root causes of system failures and share practical maintenance strategies to help you extend equipment life and improve sample production efficiency.
1、 Basic cleaning and dust prevention management
Dust pollution is the main cause of clogging and mechanical wear of grinding discs.Shanghai metallographic grinding and polishing machineAfter each use, use a soft bristled brush to clean the metal debris in the gaps between the workbench and fixtures, paying special attention to the areas where the turntable edge is prone to accumulation. It is recommended to remove the protective cover once a week and blow the internal motor heat dissipation holes with compressed air to prevent dust accumulation from affecting the heat dissipation efficiency. For water-cooled models, it is necessary to regularly replace the filter cotton in the circulating water tank to prevent impurities from entering the system again. Developing the habit of "cleaning up immediately" can reduce more than 70% of sudden failures.
2、 The golden rule for replacing consumables
The service life of polishing cloth is not a fixed value, and it should be replaced when there are obvious pits or fiber shedding on the surface. Materials of different hardness correspond to specific specifications of sandpaper - soft metals require finer grit sizes (such as P1200), while hard alloys require coarser grit sizes (P80). Before installing new sandpaper, it is necessary to check whether the support pad is flat. A warped backing plate can cause excessive local pressure and deep marks. Recommend establishing a consumables ledger to record the usage time and sample quantity of each sandpaper, and optimize the replacement cycle through data accumulation.
3、 Scientific maintenance of lubrication system
The smooth operation of transmission components relies on moderate lubrication. When injecting high-temperature lithium grease into the spindle bearings every month, it is necessary to first remove the old grease and observe the color change of the new oil. If it turns black in a short period of time, it indicates the presence of metal debris inside. It is advisable to adjust the tightness of the belt to a downward displacement of about 1cm when pressed. Over tightening accelerates wear, while over loosening causes slipping and heating. Pay special attention to the aging condition of the sealing ring of waterproof equipment. If cracks are found, they should be replaced in a timely manner to prevent coolant from seeping into the gearbox and causing rust.
4、 The Wisdom of Parameter Setting
The higher the speed, the better. Excessive speed can generate centrifugal force, causing the sample to fly off and exacerbating the temperature rise, leading to tissue deterioration. Based on experience, controlling the coarse grinding stage at 300-500rpm and reducing it to 150-200rpm during fine polishing yields better results. Pressure regulation follows the principle of "gradual loading", with initial light pressure allowing sand particles to naturally embed, gradually increasing to 80% of the nominal value as the process progresses. Immediately stop the machine for inspection when encountering abnormal vibration, which may be caused by unstable sample clamping or eccentricity.
5、 The invisible influence of environmental factors
Fluctuations in laboratory temperature and humidity can significantly alter material properties. In low temperature environments during winter, certain resin based inlays may become brittle and crack; The high temperature in summer accelerates the evaporation of electrolyte and shortens its service life. It is recommended to place the device in a constant temperature and humidity room, or preheat it for 30 minutes every day as a buffer. Voltage stabilizers should be installed in areas with unstable power supply voltage, as voltage fluctuations exceeding ± 10% can easily damage the frequency converter module.
6、 Preventive Maintenance Schedule
Establish a quarterly maintenance system: ① Check whether the torque of all fasteners meets the manual standards; ② Calibrate the level to ensure the level error of the work platform; ③ Test whether the response time of the emergency stop button is less than 0.5 seconds. Conduct a comprehensive inspection every six months, with a focus on testing the insulation resistance and grounding reliability of the circuit. These forward-looking measures can effectively avoid over 90% of major failures.
Through standardized daily maintenance and scientific operating habits, my sister's failure rate can really be reduced by more than 60%. Regularly attend manufacturer training courses, update and maintain the knowledge base in a timely manner, and keep the equipment in optimal working condition. Remember, high-quality samples come from attention to detail, while the longevity of equipment comes from continuous and meticulous care.
