Digital vacuum sensor: full analysis of principle, technology and application
Date: 2025-12-16Read: 0
A digital vacuum sensor is a precision instrument used to measure vacuum environmental pressure below atmospheric pressure and display the results in digital form. It is widely used in scientific research, industry, and medical fields, and is a key component of modern vacuum technology.
1、 Working principle
Its core is based on different physical principles to perceive pressure changes. The mainstream technologies include:
Piezoresistive: Utilizing the piezoresistive effect of semiconductor materials, pressure changes cause a change in resistance, which is then converted into an electrical signal. Suitable for low to medium vacuum range (such as 1000Pa to 0.1Pa).
Capacitive: detects pressure by measuring the change in capacitance between a pressure-sensitive diaphragm and a fixed electrode, with high accuracy and stability, commonly used in medium to high vacuum measurements.
Thermal conductivity type (Pirani meter): Based on the principle that gas thermal conductivity is related to pressure, pressure is indirectly measured by the resistance change of heating elements, mainly for rough and low vacuum (atmospheric pressure to 0.1Pa).
Ionizing type (such as cold cathode, hot cathode): It measures pressure with high sensitivity by producing an ion flow through gas molecule ionization under high and ultra-high vacuum (below 0.1Pa).
Sensors convert perceived physical changes into analog electrical signals, which are then processed, temperature compensated, and linearized using built-in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and microprocessors. Ultimately, accurate pressure values are displayed intuitively on a digital screen.
2、 Technical features
Digital display integration: directly displays pressure values, with intuitive readings, often equipped with unit switching (such as Pa, mbar, Torr).
High precision and stability: Advanced compensation algorithms are used to reduce the impact of environmental temperature drift and long-term drift.
Multi functional interface: usually equipped with output interfaces such as RS485, RS232, 4-20mA, or Ethernet, making it easy to integrate into automatic control systems.
Wide range and compatibility: Some sensors can cover pressure ranges of multiple orders of magnitude and can adapt to corrosive, flammable, and other gas environments (requiring special design).
3、 Main applications
Industrial manufacturing: Vacuum monitoring of processes such as semiconductor chip manufacturing, vacuum coating, electron beam welding, metallurgical heat treatment, etc.
Scientific instruments: pressure monitoring of ultra-high vacuum systems such as synchrotron radiation devices, particle accelerators, electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, etc.
Refrigeration and HVAC: Vacuum Leak Detection and Vacuum Extraction Process Control of Air Conditioning Refrigeration Systems.
Medical devices: pressure management for vacuum freeze-drying, sterilization equipment, and central negative pressure suction systems.
New energy and scientific research: drying of lithium batteries, simulation of aerospace environments, surface analysis of materials, etc.
summary
The digital vacuum sensor combines advanced sensing technology with digital processing to achieve accurate, reliable, and convenient measurement of vacuum environment, and is a key component in promoting manufacturing and cutting-edge scientific research. Its technology continues to develop towards higher precision, wider range, stronger anti-interference ability, and intelligent networking.
