Adjustment skills of temperature and atomization parameters of experimental graphene high-temperature spray dryer
Date: 2025-12-10Read: 1

The experimental graphene high-temperature spray dryer is the key equipment in the preparation of graphene powder. The precise adjustment of its temperature and atomization parameters directly affects the particle size distribution, specific surface area, purity and dispersity of the product. Graphene, as a two-dimensional nanomaterial, has the characteristics of high specific surface area and strong agglomeration tendency, and requires strict temperature field and atomization state during the drying process. The following provides a detailed explanation of the adjustment techniques for core parameters based on the working principle of the equipment and experimental practice.

Temperature parameter adjustment: balancing drying efficiency and material stability
The core of temperature regulation is to coordinate the inlet and outlet air temperatures, ensuring rapid evaporation of solvents in the slurry and avoiding graphene oxidation or structural damage due to high temperatures. The inlet air temperature is the main heat source in the drying process and needs to be flexibly adjusted according to the solid content and solvent type of the graphene slurry. For water-based slurries, the inlet air temperature is usually controlled between 200-280 ℃; If it is an organic solvent (such as ethanol, acetone), due to its lower boiling point, it can be lowered to 160-220 ℃, and explosion-proof ventilation treatment should be carried out at the same time. Please note that the inlet temperature should not be too high. When it exceeds 300 ℃, the edges of graphene are prone to oxidation, leading to an increase in oxygen-containing functional groups and a decrease in conductivity of the product.
The outlet temperature is a key indicator reflecting the drying effect, directly related to the moisture content and powder state of the product. Generally speaking, the outlet temperature should be controlled between 80-120 ℃. If the temperature is too low and the slurry is not completely dried, powder agglomeration and wall sticking may occur; If the temperature is too high, it may cause the powder to dry excessively, leading to increased agglomeration. When adjusting, it is necessary to follow the principle of "setting the inlet air temperature range and fine adjusting the outlet air": first set the inlet air temperature reference value, and then indirectly control the outlet air temperature by adjusting the feed speed to ensure that the outlet air temperature fluctuation does not exceed ± 5 ℃, in order to ensure product consistency.
Atomization parameter adjustment: controlling particle size and dispersion performance
The atomization parameters determine the size and uniformity of the slurry droplets, which in turn affect the particle size distribution of the dried graphene powder. The commonly used atomization methods for experimental equipment include pressure atomization and centrifugal atomization, each with its own emphasis on parameter adjustment logic.
The core parameters of pressure atomization are atomization pressure and feed flow rate. The higher the atomization pressure, the smaller the droplet size, but excessive pressure (over 0.5 MPa) can lead to excessive dispersion of droplets and increase the risk of agglomeration; If the pressure is too low, the fog droplets will become larger and the drying will not be good. The feed flow rate needs to be matched with the pressure. Excessive flow rate can easily cause droplet coalescence, while insufficient flow rate can reduce equipment efficiency. It is recommended to set the atomization pressure at 0.2-0.4MPa and the feed flow rate at 5-15mL/min during initial adjustment, and then fine tune according to the droplet state (viewed through the observation window) to ensure that the droplets are uniformly atomized and no liquid droplets fall.
Centrifugal atomization relies on the speed of the atomization disc as the key. The higher the speed, the greater the centrifugal force, and the finer the droplets. For graphene slurry, the rotation speed is usually set between 15000-25000r/min. If the viscosity of the slurry is high, the rotation speed can be appropriately increased; If the solid content is high, the speed should be reduced to avoid agglomeration caused by fine droplets. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure uniform feeding and avoid uneven droplet size caused by flow fluctuations.
Key precautions
Linkage regulation: Temperature and atomization parameters interact with each other. For example, when increasing the inlet air temperature, the feed flow rate can be appropriately increased or the atomization pressure can be reduced to avoid excessive drying of the powder;
Pre experiment calibration: When changing the slurry formula (such as solid content and viscosity), small batch pre experiments are required to determine the parameter range before large-scale preparation;
Equipment maintenance: Regularly clean the atomizing nozzle or atomizing disc to avoid blockage caused by residual slurry, which may affect the atomization effect; The drying chamber needs to be kept clean to reduce the impact of impurities on the purity of graphene.
By precisely controlling the temperature and adjusting the atomization parameters, and combining the characteristics of graphene materials, targeted optimization can effectively improve the preparation efficiency of the experimental spray dryer, and obtain graphene powder with uniform particle size, good dispersion and stable performance, laying the foundation for subsequent experimental research or industrial application.
