The Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, formerly known as the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Metallurgy, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, formerly known as the Engineering Research Institute of the National Academy of Central Research, which was founded in 1928, is one of the earliest engineering research institutions. After the founding of New China, it was affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was once named the Engineering Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Metallurgical Ceramics Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In August 2001, according to the adjustment of scientific research fields and scientific and technological development goals, it was renamed as the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems).
