AOX-WK-S Microculometer
Microcoulometry is an analytical method used to determine unknown concentrations of analytes in a solution by converting the analyte from one oxidation state to another. This method is widely used in fields such as environmental monitoring, petrochemical industry, pharmaceuticals, and food safety.
The core of microcoulometry lies in quantitatively measuring the amount of charge required during the electrolysis process. The specific process is as follows:
Sample combustionSamples containing chlorides burn at high temperatures of approximately 1000 degrees Celsius to produce hydrochloric acid (HX).
Gas processingThe gas produced by combustion is quickly removed of moisture and interfering substances through a sulfuric acid scrubber.
Titration cell reactionThe processed gas enters the temperature controlled titration cell, where chloride ions react with silver ions in the titration cell to form silver chloride (AgX).
Charge measurementTo replenish the silver ions consumed in the reaction, the system will electrolyze to produce new silver ions. The required amount of charge is directly related to the total chlorine content in the sample.
This process can be represented by the following chemical equation:

environmental monitoringUsed to determine the adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) in water quality, helping to monitor and control water pollution.
petrochemical industriesDetecting organic chlorine content during petroleum refining process to prevent catalyst poisoning and equipment corrosion.
pharmaceutical industryUsed to ensure that drugs do not contain harmful organic halogens and ensure drug safety.
food safetyDetect organic chlorine in food and its packaging materials to ensure their safety.
The microcoulometric method has high sensitivity and wide applicability. Compared with other detection methods, it is not affected by sample matrix and non-uniformity, and can accurately measure liquid, solid, and gas samples. In addition, microcoulometry is an absolute detection technique that does not require complex calibration processes and is suitable for various international standard detection methods(EST Analytical & TSHR)(Trace Elemental Instruments)(Petro Online).
Due to its accuracy and reliability, microcoulometry has become a popular method in many industriesThe analysis tool. Through this method, various industries can effectively monitor product quality, ensure safety production and environmental protection.
