Maintenance of hollow cathode lamps
Date: 2017-11-10Read: 34
  Hollow cathode lampMaintenance of
1) After turning on the power switch of the lamp, the current should be slowly adjusted to the specified value. Suddenly increasing the lamp current to the specified value will cause the cathode surface to spray, affecting the service life of the lamp, and in severe cases, it may also damage the cathode.
(2) Hollow cathode lamps, if left unused for a long time, may not function properly or even ignite due to gas leakage, gas adsorption, and other reasons. So, every 3-4 months, infrequently used lamps should be powered on and ignited for 2-3 hours to maintain their performance and extend their lifespan.
(3) Hollow cathode lamps will age after a period of use, resulting in unstable luminescence, reduced intensity, increased noise, and decreased sensitivity. In this case, an activator can be used to activate it. Alternatively, the cathode and anode of the hollow cathode lamp can be reversed and powered on for half an hour at the specified maximum working current. After activation treatment, the performance of most hollow cathode lamps is restored to a certain extent, extending the service life of the lamp.
(4) When using hollow cathode lamps with low melting point elements (such as As, Se, etc.), significant vibration should be avoided, and other lamps should not be replaced immediately after use. They need to be cooled before replacement.
(5) When removing or loading hollow cathode lamps, the lamp holder should be held instead of the lamp tube, and the quartz window of the lamp should not be touched to prevent the lamp tube from breaking or the window from being contaminated, which may cause a decrease in light energy. If you find oil stains, fingerprints or other dirt on the window, you can use a degreased cotton dipped in a mixture of 1:3 alcohol and ether to gently wipe it (the ether ratio can be increased in humid weather).
(6) Once the hollow cathode lamp is damaged, the cathode material is exposed to the outside. In order to prevent certain harmful elements on the cathode material from affecting human health, the harmful materials should be disposed of according to regulations and should not be thrown around casually.
