usePRS-801 Surface Resistance TesterWhen measuring resistance, the following steps and precautions should be followed to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results and the safety of the equipment:
1、 Preparation before operation
1. Check the equipment status
-Confirm that the appearance of the instrument is undamaged, and the test wires (including 10 foot standard wires and 42 inch high resistance shielded wires) are securely connected without damage or aging.
-Check battery level: PRS-801 uses two 9V DC alkaline batteries. If the battery level is low (the display screen shows "BATTERY LOW"), it needs to be replaced in a timely manner.
2. Environmental requirements
-The testing environment should be dry, dust-free, and free of oil stains. The temperature should be controlled at around 23 ℃, and the humidity should be ≤ 30% RH (excessive humidity may cause measurement errors or equipment failures).
-Avoid using in strong electromagnetic fields or high temperature environments to prevent interference with measurements or damage to instruments.
3. Preparation of the tested object
-The surface of the tested object needs to be flat, clean, and free of wrinkles or unevenness, otherwise it may affect the contact effect.
-For anti-static materials, it is necessary to ensure that their surface resistivity is within 10? Ω~10? Within the range of Ω (compliant with ESD standards).
2、 Device connection and parameter settings
1. Connect the test line
-Select the test line based on the range of resistance being tested:
-Low resistance (<1.0 × 10 Ω): Use a 10 foot standard wire (PRS-800LB/LR).
-High resistance value (≥ 1.0 × 10 Ω): Use a 42 inch shielded wire (PRS-801SSL/TVL) and ensure that the shielding layer is grounded to reduce interference.
-Insert the test line plug into the input port on the back of the instrument (with a spacing of ± 1 inch) to ensure a tight connection.
2. Select measurement mode
-Automatic mode: The instrument automatically selects the range and test voltage, suitable for rapid measurement.
-Manual mode: Users can customize the test voltage and range, suitable for special needs.
-Automatic manual switching mode: Combining the advantages of both, flexibly responding to different scenarios.
3. Set the test voltage
-Default parameters for automatic mode:
-0.1Ω~1.0×10? Ω:<10V voltage, error ± 0.01V.
-1.0×10? Ω~1.0×10? Ω: 10V voltage, with an error of ± 0.2V.
-1.0×10? Ω~2.0×10?? Ω: 100V voltage, with an error of ± 2.0V.
-Manual mode parameters:
-0.1Ω~1.0×10? Ω:<10V voltage.
-1.0×10? Ω~1.0×10? Ω: 10V voltage.
-2.0×10? Ω~2.0×10?? Ω: 100V voltage.

3、 Measurement operation
1. Place the test probe
-Gently press the test probe (or fixture) onto the surface of the object being tested, ensuring good contact and avoiding excessive force that may damage the probe or deform the object being tested.
-For high resistance measurement, a shielded probe should be used to reduce external interference.
2. Start measurement
-Press the "MEASURE" button on the front of the instrument to start measuring and display the current status (such as test voltage, range, etc.).
-Measurement time:
-0.1Ω~1.0×10? Ω:<2.5 seconds.
-0.1Ω~1.0×10?? Ω: An average of 2.5 seconds.
-Compliant with ESD S11.11 standard: 7.5 seconds.
->1.0×10?? Ω: More than 15 seconds.
3. Read the results
-The display screen displays the measured value in decimal or Scientific notation, and the units include Ω, K Ω, M Ω, G Ω, T Ω.
-Observe the LED indicator light (14 bit color changing):
-Red: High resistance value (>10 ΩΩ).
-Green: Low resistance (<10 Ω).
-Yellow: Medium resistance value (10 Ω~10 Ω)?? Ω).
4、 Data recording and analysis
1. Internal storage
-PRS-801 Surface Resistance TesterUp to 80 sets of measurement data can be stored, and historical records can be viewed through the "MEM" key.
-The data includes measurement values, units, testing time, voltage, etc.
2. Data transmission
-Use RS-232 output port and PROSTAT data transfer software (PRS-CSW) to transfer data to a Windows Excel spreadsheet.
-Connect the 9-pin COM port of the computer to achieve automated data backup and analysis through software.
5、 Precautions and safety regulations
1. Safe operation
-Avoid direct contact with charged resistance electrodes and fixtures to prevent electric shock.
-At a voltage of 100V, the maximum output current of the instrument is less than 4mA, but it is still necessary to follow the operation manual to avoid injury caused by misoperation.
2. Equipment maintenance
-Regularly clean the test probes and fixtures to prevent oxidation or contamination.
-Avoid storing instruments in damp or high temperature environments to prevent battery leakage or component damage.
3. Calibration and Verification
-Regularly calibrate the instrument using standard resistors (such as PRS-801C * C correlation calibrator) to ensure measurement accuracy.
-Laboratory tests have shown that errors below 1 Ω are less than 5%, while errors between 1.0 Ω and 1.0 × 10?? Ω error<0.5%, 1.0 × 10?? Ω~2.0×10?? Ω error<5% (using shielded wire).
