What methods can be used to troubleshoot issues with multifunctional centrifuges
Date: 2025-09-08Read: 0
As the core separation equipment in the laboratory, the stability of a multifunctional centrifuge directly affects experimental efficiency and sample safety. When abnormalities occur, it is necessary to gradually investigate according to the principle of "periphery first, core later, observation first, disassembly later". The following are typical fault phenomena and targeted solutions:
1、 No response or inability to start when powered on
Power system malfunction
Performance: There is no response when pressing the start button, and the indicator light does not light up.
• Investigation:
-Check if the power cord plug is loose and if the socket has power (use a multimeter to measure voltage);
-Confirm whether the fuse is blown (commonly caused by voltage fluctuations or short circuits);
-Check if the door cover safety interlock switch is closed properly. If the contact is oxidized, it needs to be cleaned with sandpaper;
-When the control panel circuit board burns out, contact after-sales service for replacement.
Attention: Some models are equipped with an emergency stop button (E-Stop), which may cause power failure protection if accidentally touched. Simply rotate clockwise to reset.
2、 Intense vibration or excessive noise during operation
Unbalanced load causes resonance
• Performance: The body shakes significantly during high-speed operation, accompanied by metal friction sounds.
• Solution:
-Immediately stop the machine and reposition the sample tube symmetrically, ensuring that the quality difference is ≤ 0.1g;
-Check whether the rotor is deformed (such as bent or dented), and replace the deformed rotor;
-Confirm that the rotor is installed in place and that the spindle cone matches the rotor well;
-If it is a low-temperature centrifuge, it is also necessary to check whether the refrigerant is sufficient, as abnormal compressor will generate additional vibration.
Tip: When using a fixed angle rotor, the sample volume should not exceed 80% of the tube length; The horizontal rotor needs to be strictly balanced with the opposite air tube.
3、 The speed/temperature cannot reach the set value
Sensor or actuator failure
• Insufficient rotational speed:
-The wear of the motor carbon brush causes a decrease in power, so replace the carbon brush with the same specification;
-Variable frequency drive parameter drift, enter the menu to reset factory settings;
-The belt is loose and slipping, adjust the tensioner or replace the drive belt.
• Temperature control failure:
-Poor contact of temperature sensor probe, re plug or replace PT100 sensor;
-The accumulation of dust in the condenser affects heat dissipation. Disassemble and clean the fan filter;
-Refrigerant leakage (applicable to cryogenic centrifuges) requires professional personnel to replenish fluorine.
Verification method: No load operation test. If the actual speed/temperature still deviates, it is judged as a hardware failure.
4、 Extended braking time or repeated start stop
Aging of braking system or signal interference
• Reason:
-The electromagnetic brake pads are severely worn and have insufficient friction;
-The speed sensor is affected by dust interference and sends incorrect signals;
-There is a foreign object stuck in the centrifugal chamber of the drum.
• Handling:
-Disassemble and clean the oxide on the surface of the brake disc;
-Dip a cotton swab in alcohol and gently wipe the speed sensor window;
-Manually rotate the rotor to confirm flexibility and remove residual debris from the cavity.
5、 Key points of daily preventive maintenance
Daily: Empty the centrifuge chamber liquid, wipe the rotor and basket;
Weekly: Check the corrosion of the rotor and lubricate the bearings;
Monthly: Calibrate speed/temperature accuracy, test braking time;
Every year: Replace vulnerable parts (such as seals and carbon brushes) and conduct comprehensive performance testing.
More than 90% of common faults can be solved through the above steps. If complex operations such as motor disassembly and refrigeration system maintenance are involved, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer's engineer. Establishing a 'Device Usage Log' to record the history of faults can help quickly locate repetitive issues.
