Electric melt index meter: a key equipment for quality control in plastic processing
Date: 2025-06-16Read: 1
In the plastic industry, Melt Flow Rate (MFR) is an important indicator for measuring the processing performance of plastic materials. It reflects the difficulty of plastic flow in a molten state, directly affecting the stability of processing techniques such as injection molding and extrusion, as well as the quality of finished products. As a standard equipment for measuring MFR, the electric melt index meter is widely used in plastic production, research and development, and quality control fields due to its advantages of high precision, automation, and easy operation.
An electric melt index meter is an experimental device designed based on international standards such as ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133, used to measure the melt flow rate of thermoplastic materials under specific temperature and load conditions. The core principle is to place the plastic sample into a heating cylinder, melt it at a set temperature, and flow it out through a standard die under constant load. The instrument automatically records the amount of molten material flowing out within a certain period of time, calculates the melt index, and evaluates the processing performance of plastics.
The electric melt index meter adopts an advanced electronic temperature control system with high temperature control accuracy, usually up to ± 0.1 ℃, ensuring the repeatability and accuracy of experimental data. At the same time, the instrument has good temperature uniformity and stability, which can meet the testing needs of different plastic materials.
Compared with traditional manual melt index meters, electric models have automation functions, including automatic feeding, automatic cutting, automatic timing, and data recording. This not only improves experimental efficiency, but also reduces human error, making the test results more reliable.
Modern electric melt index meters are typically equipped with microprocessors and touch screen interfaces, allowing users to easily set test parameters and view test results in real-time. Some models also support data storage, export, and analysis functions for quality management and data traceability.
This instrument is suitable for various thermoplastic materials, such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), etc. It is widely used in plastic raw material production, modification processing, injection molding, and quality inspection.
In the plastic production process, the stability of the melt index is directly related to the formability and mechanical properties of the product. Through the detection of electric melt index meter, enterprises can adjust the raw material ratio and processing technology in a timely manner to ensure the stability of product quality. In addition, this instrument is also an important tool for evaluating the processing performance of new formulations in plastic research and development.
