Maintenance Techniques for Gilson PL Multi channel Pipette
Date: 2025-11-17Read: 1
Gilson PL type multi-channel pipetteThe core of maintenance is to extend the service life and ensure the accuracy of liquid transfer. It is necessary to follow the principles of "daily cleaning, regular maintenance, and fault prevention". The following are key maintenance techniques:
1、 Cleaning techniques after daily use
External cleaning: Use a non fiber cloth dipped in 70% ethanol to wipe the pipette housing, operating buttons, and suction cone to remove residual liquid and dust, and avoid corrosion of parts by residual reagents.
Cleaning of suction cone: If liquid overflows, immediately disassemble the suction cone, rinse it with distilled water, and air dry it. If necessary, soak it in a mild cleaning agent (avoid using strong corrosive solvents), and ensure complete drying before assembly.
Immediate handling of pollution: After contact with biological samples and corrosive reagents, deep cleaning should be carried out immediately to prevent reagents from infiltrating the interior and damaging the piston and seals.
2、 Core steps for regular maintenance
Seal maintenance: Disassemble the lower part of the pipette every 3 months, check whether the piston and sealing ring are worn or deformed. If aging or leakage occurs, replace the original parts in a timely manner, and apply special lubricant after replacement (avoid using non special grease such as Vaseline).
Calibration of suction head cone: Check the fit between the suction head cone and the suction head every month. If there is looseness or wear, replace the cone components in a timely manner to ensure no air leakage during liquid transfer.
Internal component maintenance: Conduct a comprehensive disassembly every 6 months, rinse the internal piston components with distilled water, dry them and assemble them in sequence. After assembly, perform simple accuracy tests (such as weighing and verifying with distilled water).
3、 Storage and protection techniques
Correct storage method: After use, adjust the pipette to its maximum range and place it vertically on a dedicated bracket to avoid horizontal or inverted placement and prevent internal liquid backflow from damaging components.
Environmental protection: Avoid placing the pipette in high temperature, humidity, or environments with strong electromagnetic interference. When not in use for a long time, wipe the pipette clean and place it in a dry storage box. Regularly (monthly) remove and empty the pipette several times to maintain piston flexibility.
Consumables adaptation protection: Only use Gilson original or compatible suction tips to avoid forcefully inserting suction tips with mismatched sizes, which may cause damage to the suction tip cone.
4、 Fault prevention and detailed maintenance
Avoid overload operation: It is strictly prohibited to exceed the maximum range adjustment scale of the pipette to prevent damage to the internal mechanical structure, which may affect accuracy and service life.
Standardize operations to reduce losses: avoid pressing the piston too quickly when sucking, release slowly when draining, and reduce the wear of seals caused by liquid impact; During the pipetting process, avoid contact between the pipette and the container wall below the liquid level to prevent scratching of the suction cone.
Regular calibration and linkage maintenance: Professional calibration should be conducted every 12 months. During the calibration process, the internal component status should be checked synchronously, and any problems should be repaired or replaced in a timely manner. Only after passing the calibration can it continue to be used.
